4 days in San Felipe

The weather was awesome, I'm guessing as good as one could hope for in February. My friend has a small beach house at Campo Mexico, 39.5 km south of SF. It was great and we (2 couples) had a blast. The drive was smooth and the best part is we didn't pay any mordita the whole trip ! We spent Saturday in town, explored a bit and went to Puertecitas on Sunday. The only negative we experienced was the 3 hour wait to cross back at the "new" frontera in Mexicali. Bummer.

What border did you use and what time was it when you returned?

Cyanide41 - 2-17-2010 at 07:45 AM

What do you mean "new" frontera? I came back through Mexicali in Oct and it was the same old Fontera I was used to.

Mexicali has two crossings. Old and new. New is east of town 7 miles.

Yes, the "new" one is 4-5 years old now ;) It is actually called "new", the name is something like linea nuevo Mexicali, it's right there on the sign ;D

It was 3 PM on Monday of a holiday weekend so we were not surprised by the wait. They were brutal too, inspecting almost every car and secondary was packed to the max.

It's a lot older than that... We on the Viva Baja Van trip in July, 2001 used the 'new' Mexicali East crossing... It was new, back then! http://vivabaja.com/van1

Oh OK, I was told 4-5 years. Hey, time passes odly in Mexico anyway ;)

We crossed about the same time, that was terrible...Worst yet for me at that border, but worst border crossing of all time for me was Tecate, about two years ago, 2 hours and 45 minutes!

I crossed Tuesday the 17th and the "New" crossing took 1.25 hours and had I not gone far left would have cut 30 or 40 min easy off that. Stay Center to Right!!

on the center lane. The left lane used to feed 3-4 entry portals. Last month some genious installed concrete barriors and the left lane now feeds one portal.
