Bought a boat in Baja a few years ago that had not been imported yet. I used a boat broker and he assisted in the importation but I believe his name
is on the 10 year TIP? I have since brought the boat back to the US and, wouldn't you know it, sold it to a guy who lives in Mexico! He needs the
TIP canceled before he can bring it back. Any ideas on how to do that? The boat is in San Diego so bringing it to the border would not be a big
problem.

Why not walk across at San Ysidro and ask Aduana how to proceed? Tell them that you are ABOUT to sell it. I think they will just require you to scrap
the sticker off the windshield, if you applied it, and also bring the certificate of importation in.
Please let us know what they say. This is a situation I cant recall reading about before.

Thought I'd close the loop on this one. I contacted the original broker in Cabo and was told he could cancel the permit, without the boat, in La Paz
(Pichilingue) if I sent him the original paperwork and sticker off the boat. Would have been 2 DHL shipments to do that. I contacted Banjercito in
Mexico City and was told I personally had to bring the boat and paperwork to Tijuana to cancel it. There is 2 problems with that, first is I
don't have the original equipment list and second it is near impossible to trailer a boat to their office in TJ. I went anyway hoping my charm would
work.
I spent nearly 2 hours convincing the Banjercito guy that it was difficult to bring the boat in and that I was the legal owner. After a while, an
conversations with the Adjuana guys and Mexico City, he said bring the sticker in he would cancel it. Round trip from TJ to San Diego cost me over 2
hours but I returned.
When I goy back he said he needed the original list when we applied for the permit as well as the sticker. Another hour convincing him that's not
what he told me originally. More meetings and phone calls. FINALLY after 6 hours I was able to cancel the permit (and no morbido!). The giys know
what he did was probably "illegal" and was not very comfortable about it.
Lesson learned is we gringos TRY to follow their rules but they make it so damn difficult and threaten harsh penalties if we don't. One would think,
I know this is a stretch, that government functions (immigration, customs, etc.) dealing with foreigners would make a SMALL effort to have someone who
spoke english. It blew me away that TJ had ZERO. I'm not an ugly American but cmon' guys!
I buddy that is racing his boat to Cabo next month just told me Cabo now REQUIRES TIP's to get into the harbor. He told me how easy it was to get it
online. He got the paperwork and sticker (they don't have to see the boat to issue a sticker) but all of the instructions were in Spanish. Mexico -
You think some "importing" might be a foreigner? He knows NOTHING about the cancellation of the permit and, in the event he sells the boat in the US
without canceling the permit, he will never be allowed another TIP for his new boat!
I can't believe I am the only one that has had this frustration. I love Mexico, have a home there and sort of know how to get around. I have limited
spanish but am making the effort to learn. I just wish there was some Mexican tourism department that would listen and act on some of these issues.
