new boarding crossing

when coming from San Felipe,what is the best way to get to the new crossing in Mexicali? I get lost every time and have to find my way through town to the old one. Thanks

If you have a Lorance GPS system, I posted about a bazillion way points on our return (I could try and copy the file and send it to you -but I dunno...technology). I have not re-installed the unit in our new rig, so haven't checked to see if all is in place (lost the points on the way down for some reason). If not too late, I should be back up and running after this weekend. If you have a map in-hand, I could walk you through the points on you map via phone. Its a fairly direct route.

After the overpass with Costco/Mega on your right, turn right. Go straight ahead at all junctions from then on (including the one at Burger King where you go under an overpass, keep in the middle lane there).

Eventually you get to an underpass at Office Depot/Walmart. Contine straight there as well (using the underpass). As you come out of that you enter the more crowded area nearer the border.

Continue straight at that area. Keep in the right hand lane. After a 4-way stop (which may now be lights), at the next junction there's a turning to the right to an industrial estate. Don' take that, but take the next right shortly after, which is at a traffic circle at the border wall and which is one-way. (if you miss it, just loop round the traffic circle, you want to end up following the wall rightwards - east). So you should now be on a one-way road going east, which then becomes a divided highway parallel to the border wall.

Continue along there for a mile or two following the wall, passing a Women's hospital on the left. Then you should see the "sails" of the border post. Keep in the left lane and turn at a "stop" where you see the "USA" sign way over on the left (it's the second left within that junction, the first left is where the incoming traffic comes from and also gives access to Mexican customs).

So really there's just two right turns: the first beyond Mega/Costco after the overpass, the second at the traffic circle just before the border wall. In every other case, keep straight. Finally a left turn to enter the border access road.

Turn Right off Hwy 5 at Bloque Moderna onto Venustiano Carranza, Right at Calzada Cetys, Left at Calle Novena.

Distance is within a couple of tenths. Time is usually quicker. Entrance to Crossing is a Right-Turn rather than Left, but that usually isn't a problem either way because Policia are there when traffic is heavy.

I have trouble finding this crossing as well.
Googled a map of meicalli,cant find this Bloque Moderna ???

Mexicali East...

The easiest way, maybe a mile or two longer, is to go straight north from the Hwy. 2 junction (going past the Hotel Lucerna) as if you are heading for the Original Mexicali/ Calexico border...

One block before the border fence road (which is a one way to the left/ wast), is 'Argentina' (Avenue or Street) which is a one way street to the right/ east... that takes you right to the new Mexicali East border... with no cross street mysteries... it's a few miles to the east.

Yes, it isn't direct or shortest... but neither is the standard way to get to Mexicali west... The goal is to not get lost in the middle of a city, right?

It's a concrete company ("modern blocks"). I don't remember where they are on the road either, I think it's the first lights coming into Mexicali from San Felipe, at the first Oxxo (until they build another one next week), but I could be wrong.

I stop at Costco or Mega for a break, before tackling the main Mexicali traffic and the often long wait. Then turn right, after them (the first right turn after the overpass back on hwy 5, onto Calz. Gomez Morin). Staying straight on that does eventually reach the traffic circle at the border wall, then go right (east).

Two Entrances?

Looks like there are two entrances to the border crossing as you head east, the first looks like a car entrance and the second looks like the truck entrance. I am seeing this from Google Maps....is this the case?

Has using the route 7 exit out of Mexico proved to be faster than the old Calexico exit?

Only faster if the wait is shorter than the downtown border... You drive like a bunch of miles extra to use the east crossing. There are signs that will direct you... or follow other cars and not semi tractor trucks. I use Tecate for most of my San Felipe return trips the past 5 years... used Mexicali downtown 3 months ago for the first time in awhile.

The eastern most of the two entrances is the commercial entrance. commercial vehicles only. The western one is the personal vehicle and bus entry.

Northbound ayer. Light traffic all the way, including Carranza and Cetys. Arrived at the entrance 1400. Line out past the entrance gates. 57 minute wait time.

Haven't used the "Old" crossing in years. Have no idea what Calexico even looks like anymore. Since I'm heading for Northbound 86, I have no reason to deal with that traffic.

BTW, it's actually "Bloquera" Moderna and it's awfully hard to miss. We always had referred to it as the "Robledo Industrial" intersection before V. Carranza was cut all the way through.
