Easter week

Howard - 3-7-2010 at 04:00 PM

Easter is Sunday, April 4th. Is it the week before or the week after that one might expect the "craziness" of people on the road drinking and driving, crowds, etc., etc.?

I will be driving from Loreto to the border approx. Tuesday, April 4th.

Any special activities in Loreto anytime from March 30 thru April 4th?

Thank you

Howard AKA Bubba

Every Mexican in the world goes to the beach and camps out starting the Thursday before Easter and through the weekend. It's really fun to see them coming in with their vehicles loaded with everything including the kitchen sink and the queen sized mattress, chairs, tents, toys, firewood and related gear. One year I counted 60 dome tents on our quarter mile beach. The men will get busy setting up the camp while the kids run off to play and the moms and grandmas start cooking. Once the camp is set up the men retire to their beers, the grandmas sit down in their special chairs, the kids keep running amok and the moms just keep cooking. Just like our family vacations of old. Doesn't seem like much of a vacation for mom.

It can be a fun time to enjoy the carnival like atmosphere. Just don't expect it to be your typical quite, isolated Baja beach experience. And yes, a good time to stay off the roads.

So it's pretty much done Monday or Tuesday after Easter?

Thanks for your reply.

Get this right! The week leading up to Easter! Antes! Before . If you go Afterwards the landscape looks like a Bomb went off! Vacacionistas Trash! Cases of empty Tecates, torn clothing , littered beaches & reverberati8ng noise! Vagabundos The Earth shudders!

hola, i believe the mexican partying starts a week before until a week after easter. i'm not catholic but good friday and palm sunday also comes to mind in the way of celebrations.

i have heard the mexicans come all the way from tijuana to the beaches of the east cape and some just camp out under tarps. beer cans, bottles and trash everywhere ! maybe the lagging economy will deter many ?

i have been told to make sure you have supplies of water and gas before they start to arrive as when they leave, they do take up a lot of gasoline.

we try and not do a lot of driving during that time period, especially friday and saturday nights.

BIEN SALUD, DA RAT
