Overnight hotels in the San Quintin Vicinity

My trip south got delayed a bit and I'm now considering leaving after work on Wednesday. I would probably cross at San Ysidro about 4:30 or so. With that in mind, I'm looking for a good overnight suggestion for my 18 month old and I. San Quintin area is where I'm targeting. Ideally, I'd like some place I can make a reservation. We don't need anything fancy....just clean and secure parking.

the border going south was packed at 4:00pm on thursday
they are stopping ALOT of travelers

if so... you wont make san quintin until late late

villa san quintin, secure parking, decent restaurant, clean modern rooms.
450p in san quitin on your left if you are heading south.

also in santo tomas. don't remember the name but it's that restaurant/store/gas station not to far south from the first military check south of ensenada. 350 or 400p if i remember right

El Palomar, right?
The motel is above and behind the store. That would be a pretty good stop for a late south-bound crossover. I think its about a half-hour south of Ensenada.

There are numerous threads. Jardines, Villa Marie and the one righ tnext to it. some people still like Chavez. And David will send you on to Baja Cactus in El Rosario.

Starting to think I might just go back to my normal routine and leave early in the morning. I'm not sure I want to deal with all the traffic. Thanks!

Can you cross into Baja via Tecate? You shouldn't have a wait there and can get to your first night's stop early on. This might be in keeping with your toddler's routine.

That would be my choice for San Quintin - in fact I am here Monday night after driving up from Mulege. Quiet, secure parking and nice rooms. Decent restaurant on site. 011526166151800

Right on, Jim. Villas San Quentin is the best motel deal in the area, hands down. I know. I have tried them all over the last...oh, just a lot of years. :rolleyes:

We are just north of San quintin safe off the hwy and nightwatchemen. been here almost 40 years.
turn at the propane plant and go west for 1/2 mile
very clean, heat, porta crib if you need it. coffee and tea in the rooms and carpet, safe. give us a try. we live on the property too.

the back up on thursday at 4pm was past the last turnoff for the usa

i got some pesos there...12.45 to the dollar
what alot of cars in that shopping area...i'm not used to that

at 6:30am when we got an fmt the border guys
were sending every other car back to secondary

lots of cars were unloading the entire car or truck
there were lots of "unhappy campers"

it took about 40 minutes to get the fmt
had to go in the back to get it
they checked our documents before we crossed

a few years ago i crossed in the afternoon like you want to

you'll be driving in the dark and have to drive slower
lots of traffic in the first part

i was always tired about camalu at 10PM
time to stop

figure 5 to 6 hours to san quintin

since you're only going to Asuncion i'd just leave early the next day
save the motel cost...remember the baby...the floors :no:

you'll easily make in one day :yes:

I crossed southbound SY at 4 PM yesterday, It took an hour. Rush hour 5 and 805 funneling down to 4 or 5 Mex inspection lanes. The 3 left side
inspection lanes were closed. Not fun.

Tecate would probably be quicker even with the extra miles and certainly less stressful. Otay might even be better but I don't know. I've never crossed there in the late afternoon.

I'd wait until the next morning. You'll miss the southbound commuters and have all day to get to where you're going.

I agree with you and will leave in the morning.

Our normal routine is up at 4:00am and out the door by 4:30. We cross at 4:45am and make it to our place early evening. My son is an incredible traveler. This will be his 6-7 trip down. We stop for gas in El Rosario and Vizcaino. Our other stop is at La Mission in San Quintin for breakfast as well. Pretty easy trip in all.

Hey Zac. Would I be correct to assume that your reference to La Mission is actually Mision Santa Isabel? They do serve a good breakfast there. If you are interested in a change of pace, I recommend Viejo San Quintin. it's farther South, right side next to the hospital. It's run by the family that runs Jardines. Really good breakfast.
