arrived at BoLA for our annual fishing trip and what an epic day of "catching". Igor Galvan put us on the grouper then Luciano,Dale,Doug caught their
limits of yellowtail within 3hrs. The second day was much the same limits of yellowtail and back to Guillermos by noon to freshen up and a cold
Pacifico. Our group been fishing with Igor and Guillermos for the last 8years and this was one of the most productive days of fishing. Temperature was
79degrees and NO wind. Perfecto!
You wanna catch fish? check on Igor...........planning on return at late Sept for the dorado fishing.

Sounds like you nailed it! Congrats! The weather can always be hit or miss this time of year and it sounds like the YT are a bit early this year.
I'm glad to see you were there to greet them on their arrival.

what are the boys charging for a 1/2 day of fishing? what lures did you use on the grouper?

Woody in OB,
Igor charges $300 to $350 for all day fishing. Depart 6am and returns by 2pm or when
you have the cooler full of fish. IMHO its expensive but you get what you pay for!
Super panga with 4stroke Honda, Igor gets you there quick and will work to limit your catch. You can pay for a smaller panga and cheaper but why get
beat up especially if
the winds start to pickup.
Igor speaks fluent english, tells jokes and will talk about their off road truck. Chacales
is their name. Ask to watch their baja races- its amazing.
We caught the grouper on Megabait and Salas Jr, paying close attention not to snap the bottom. Retrieve the lure slow enough but not to fast.
Yellowtail retrieve as fast as possible 6:1 high speed reel. You can't crank fast enough for the yellows. Megabait and heavier Salas,Kicker, to the
bottom and yoyo.

sounds like the yellows may have came in early, useually late march and aprill are lousy fishing months down there and the wind can be nasty. igor is
the best but i prefer my own boat.

Wow!
I hope they'll still be there in May...the jurel, that is.
got_fishead - 3-24-2010 at 09:53 PM
Martyman,
Jurel will be there for sure and quality will only improve especially during
this El Nino year. Hope to return around Sept for the dodo run.

I've heard from a friend that there are not as many gill nets being set in Bahia de LA due to the tourists coming down to see the whale sharks. I
guess the nets interfere with the large sharks.
Is this true?
Is the fishing getting better because of that?
got_fishead - 3-26-2010 at 01:39 PM
Martyman,
We did see a few whales in the area along with a pod of baby dolphins. As far as gill netters- didnt see any which
is a good thing.
What we observed was soliders patroling the beach area with their M-16s. There was a patrol boat tied up on Guillermos dock.
Also, the villagers would come out in the early evening to fish the Humboldt squid. Lots of doors slamming arount 4am
to unload their catch awaiting the referigerated trucks.
There was a TV crew with Americans- somebody said it was a National Geographic crew documenting the squid, all sorts
of television and underwater camera onboard.
I think this year will be epic for catching fish- they seem to arrive early and hopefully stay around longer.
