Does anyone have information regarding the cost to bring new and / or used appliances into Baja? We're planning on bringing down things like a cook
stove, refrigerator, washer, dryer etc. but we don't have a clue as what the import taxes really are.
Do they search your trailer, accept a bill of lading or make you unload it in order to inventory the articles?
How do you establish a price difference between new and used appliances?

i think you have a bill of lading/reciept and you declare what you think it's worth. if you lowball too bad then you accept their number, or take it
all back north.

If it is over a $1000.00 dollars you have to go through Otay. At TJthey will turn you back and tell you that.
so just better to go there first

Where are you planning on going over? We took all our appliences down ourselves in the back of our pickup trick and it came to much more than $1000.
Of course we looked like the Grapes Of Rath..........but it worked.

hola henshaw, i went through tecate friday, march 12 at 6:30 a.m. in anticipation of paying taxes on quite a few new things in my trailer. i had all
my receipts and itemized everything with the prices as purchased on a separate sheet.
as luck would have it, there was a young kid outside and the lite turned green ? wonders never cease.
further back on this site, others have stated the gate being open that early in the morning. they open at 5:00. also, you never see any cops at that
hour.
even though tecate is out of the way, i have found that it's worth it to cross there since 2004.
the road construction is not in te mountains and the roads are very passable.

Came back through Tecate with a new large generator. Cost about $900.00 and I wanted to avoid SY, and being turned around.
I cut the CA sales tax portion off the invoice so I would not have to pay duty on that too, if stopped.
I was sent over to the declaration stop, and duly charged. They allowed a deduction of $75 USD for each of us, being residents and we had our FM-3's.
They then assesed what amounts to about 15% duty on the remainder.
We were treated well and they were quite friendly to us.
If you don't have pesos to pay the duty, then you must go the the nearby bank (if open) and change dollars to pesos in order to proceed. We had enough
in pesos.

We went through Mexicali....had all my receipts and was ready to pay whatever it took. Had a stove, dishwasher and refrig. All new in boxes from
Sears. We declared everything and when told it would cost a bit more if we needed a receipt we said"no receipt neccessary". Ha, and off we went.

Henshaw - are you bringing in your own stuff for your own place? If so- search "menaje de casa" (I think that's the term) - one time duty-free
importation of household goods.
Or maybe you knew that already . .
