Heard that Dmytri "took back" La Fondas. Also that he fired all of the staff.
Update:
We went to La Fonda's yesterday (Tuesday March 23rd). Dmytri is NOT back. However, one waiter we talked to said he may be back at some time in the
future.

Jeeeezo...I hope you're right. Makes me wonder though, how old is he?Pompano - 3-22-2010 at 10:33 AM
Good God..I haven't seen him for...well, a lotta years.Woooosh - 3-22-2010 at 10:47 AM
so La Fonda will revert to its "old" menu? LOL
It would be nice to go back there without getting sick or fleeced. It really is the perfect location and layout and every guest I have taken there
really enjoyed it... even the roving roosters.

I'll stop by on Friday and check it out. Might have to force down a Bloody Mary while I'm there.Bajahowodd - 3-22-2010 at 12:14 PM
Service might be a little slow without any staff.
but I do agree about the layout and location thing.BajaBlanca - 3-22-2010 at 01:51 PM
La Fonda ... the ocean waves ... the chickens ... the view .. haven't been there in forever ....... I heard their Sunday brunches used to be delish
Now, if you happen to be in Ensenada for dinner, be sureto get the filet mignon at the HOTEL CORTEZ restaurant ... melt in your mouth and $15 ...knuckles - 3-22-2010 at 01:58 PM
Keep us posted. The real problem was the awful staff. Attitude with a capital A. Not sure if it was the management or they just hate the touristas.Bajahowodd - 3-22-2010 at 02:00 PM
I hate the touristas, too. Gotta run.DENNIS - 3-22-2010 at 02:23 PM
Everybody misses the point of the chickens. It was up to the customer to grab the little fryer by the neck, hold it high in the air and say, "This is
the one for me."
The waiter would take it off your hands and return with it in no time sizzleing on your plate in pieces.
Col. Sanders should try this.Bajahowodd - 3-22-2010 at 04:12 PM

only went to la fonda once. they had a sewage line break and stench was over powering, awful, horrendous. we decided not to take a seat, and they
tried to talk us into dining. could not believe with the incredible stench that they even were open that day. i am sure many of you think it is
fine, but first impressions are what they are. after smelling that i could never return. every time i drive by it, i think of sewage. isn't that
nice?knuckles - 3-22-2010 at 04:22 PM
The chickens were never a problem for us. Neither are the dogs or the cats or even the mouse that visited our room once. They didnt have attitude
problems.
And just in case you all were wondering, this attitude was observed throughout many years of visits, not just a few bad ones. We put up with it
because of the location and good food. Once the food went downhill we were outta there.DENNIS - 3-22-2010 at 04:36 PM

IMO, there wasn't an appreciable difference in food quality or service after Joe left. The difference was...no Joe. He was/is the best 'front of the
house' restaurateur, ever.elgatoloco - 3-23-2010 at 12:37 PM

Last I talked to him was a year ago. The new owners had not performed but it was his intention to do almost anything not to take it back. I
don't blame him. He's no spring chicken and was enjoying his semi-retirement. His wife, however, was peeed. If it was up to her they'd be shark bait.lookingandbuying - 3-26-2010 at 11:45 AM
Last time I saw Dmytri I asked him if was happy about selling the place?? His response?? He jumped up in the air at least 3 feet, clicked his heels
together and said BEST THING I EVER DID!!!
At some point, well before the slowdown, I was talking with one of the new owners. He claimed the place was worth at least $15 Mil...and NOT Pesos!!
I almost fell off the fricking cliff!!!
I for one would love to own the place...price is everything.noproblemo2 - 3-26-2010 at 12:32 PM
So is he back or not????Udo - 3-27-2010 at 02:33 PM
Service at La Fonda has been horrible since Dimytri sold his place. Richard, the new owner decided to spend his profits in off-road racing a class
seven instead of fixing the place.Bajahowodd - 3-27-2010 at 05:07 PM
So, he can do what he wants to do. And, long time customers can vote with their feet.Udo - 3-27-2010 at 05:19 PM
Which is what my wife and I did by shifting our alliances to (next door) Poco Cielo.
Plus, Cheryl, the owner, is using my experience to help attract locals, tweak her menu, and helped in making a better life for Alfie...their pet
parrot African Grey.DanO - 3-28-2010 at 11:38 PM
Stopped for lunch friday. Joe was not around. We had grilled quail, sauteed sea bass and garlic shrimp. All excellent, and great service, kept
those bloody maries coming. BW, wait til you see the new beach at Bocana. Wow.BajaWarrior - 3-29-2010 at 04:12 AM

Pretty tore up I imagine. I saw a photo of it on LaBocana.org.
How was the upper road? Any hazards along the way? Heading down Friday a.m.cjesme - 3-30-2010 at 05:55 AM
We love Dmytri and we love Cheryl, from Poco Cielo. Staying with Cheryl is the best place in my eyes. La Mision is hopebully better now that the male
manager is gone. I hear Berta is the manager now. THANK GOD. I refused to stay there when he(don't know his name) was manager. Elizabeth is wonderful
too. This is the area I am looking to live, come July!!
