Danger--New 4lane Hwy Construction TS to Cabo

tiotomasbcs - 3-23-2010 at 04:17 PM

All travelers along Hwy 19 from Todos Santos to Los Cabos should be very careful circulating this side of BCS! Lots of narrow road and dropoffs! Dump trucks seem to be racing up and back with their loads. Mix in the regular locals driving on the inside service road against traffic. Spring Break with tons of Borachos will undoubtedly add to the thrills! A car came off the hwy last Sat nite and rolled their vehicle but still lived to tell about it! Local Fireman and Ambulance driver scared me to death with some gory details!! Cuidado, Amigos.

Good advice. I was coming home from Todos last weekend and some Yahoo was going north in the southbound lane where they have the divided detour lane by the Campo Experimental. There was just barely enough room for us to get by each other.

But hey, it will be so nice when they get that bad boy finished! I hate driving that stretch. I'm usually the guy three vehicles back from the slow simi hoping for a safe stretch to pass. As soon as I crest the hill to get my view of the road ahead, the crazy f from 12 cars back is already coming around all of us! That's when I think we're all gonna die!
Thanks for the update.

Have they built a truck bypass around TS yet?

I gotta get down there, Jonesing for the place.

How much are beers at Frank's these days?

Bajahowodd - 3-23-2010 at 04:52 PM

Not yet finished? We went through last June and July. Seemed to me that with all the grading going on, it should have been long ago finished.
That said, my first impression was that the original post was about the two lane South of Todos.

You will be amazed at the freeway-like four-lane they have completed, along with a flyover where the two highways split.

Starting to wonder about you, when Shut Up Franks becomes a point of reference.

It's finished from La Paz to Todos Santos, now they are working on the Todos to Cabo stretch from both ends. They have a temporary truck route that skirts Todos but they are going to change it to one that misses the town altogether. I have no knowledge about the price of beer at Throw Up Franks though.

Well I'm assuming Frank's has added faux Mexicana decor, offers Cerveza lattes, and has replaced the pool table with pilates exercise equipment. Verdad?

Tiotomas would probably be the go to guy for that info.

The Rt 19 from La Paz to TS is beautiful but mucha Alta Velocidad & cows at nite. Poor, poor San Pedro--split in two and now just a drive-thru! Pescadero will be messed up the same way unless they merge back to one lan e with topes??! Many do not realize the important cultural value of the neighborhood wate3ring hole. Poetry reading in the form of Tall Tales ( bullchit).. I knew this woman once.. and Art lessons... I can paint, houses, har, har! Just a good place too cool off!! Two frosty Pacificos for 35p! Not many alternatives except Pilates, K Rico!

Drove Hwy 1 from Pescadero to Mulege yesterday 3/23. Mostly in good shape with several areas of maintenance. Senrenidad is $63 us.

There is a truck route on the outskirts of town but it kind of goes through the backside residential area not through the center of town. Although you still get plenty of trucks cruisin thru Todos.

I read on the Baja Western Onion of a fire North of Todos. Anybody have any more details or pictures.

Hey Thomas, hope all is well.

This is the beginning of the fire as seen from our rooftop

...about 40 minutes into the fire

... near the height. It was in the huerta below La Poza... thankfully no loss of homes.

Yipes - hope it doesn't smell as bad as the trash fires in Santa Rosalia - I don't know how those folks can live with that smell.
