Erendira, Fishing

Has anyone been down to Erendira ? Want to bring the family down to do some fishing. Hows the rooms and pangas in the area ? Any pictures ? May go up to Punta San Jose (north of Erendira) Woundering how is the road along the coast ?

Never stayed in Erendria, but Ive seen some pretty decent places to stay. The coastal route up to Punta San Jose is nice. You'll want a truck though for a few areas. 4x4 is nice.

My parents and I stayed a few times at Castro's Camp (Ejido Erendira/ Punta San Isidro) to go out bottom fishing in their pangas... They had simple, but comfortable rooms. We drove down with empty ice chests and came home with yummy rock cod varieties that would last us all season. This was back in the late 70's early 80's.

I have not been to Castro's Camp for about 8 years. Back then I fished there 2-4 times yearly for about 15 years. They use to have small cabins most with a stove and frig and double bunk beds to sleep four. So bringing food was not necessary. Quite reasonable to stay the night. Also had a restaurant. Both over looking the pacific. Beautiful views. We only fished for rockfish (reds, whitefish, lings, ect). We brought our own squid for bait. Most fishing holes were within 30 minutes of launch. Always went home with a cooler full of filets. Castro's Camp was one of my favorite places to fish in northern westcoast baja. Close to San Diego. Sometimes we'd leave at 11pm the night before, get there about 4-5am have breakfast at the restaurant, fish all day then drive back home stopping at La Fonda for dinner. Great memories of that place. We also would camp a few miles up the dirt coastal road from Castro's Camp. We'd just find a beautiful spot on the bluff overlooking the ocean (looks like Big Sur area) and camp for a week for free. Nobody would come by and ask for $.

DK, I think the OP was asking for info from sometime more recent than the 20th century :lol:

I was down there last summer and our group took two pangas out of Castros Camp. I believe we paid around $40 per person for a group of 10 of us. Here is a recap of our trip with some photos as well: http://blog.bajabound.com/erendira-baseball-weekend.

I know the roads in the area got hit pretty hard by all the rains earlier this year, but everything is passable by now. I have always stayed with friends there, so I don't know much about rooms that are available.

Goat, this is a 'discussion forum'... the fellow before me (Boojumman) never stayed there, but his input along with mine helps provide some background on the region as other people besides the OP is reading this...

Don't be affraid of too much information, I don't think the OP is trying to pass any bills. :rolleyes:

Exactly the same in 2010. Basic rooms and great fishing. In the summer they will go futher for yellows and tuna for an additional price. Bottom fish are pleantiful

The rooms are $35 per night and sleep 6, but 4 comfortably. There's a small fridge and microwave in the rooms. Inshore panga fishing is around $180 for 4 people. The panga's are big and fish 6 easy.

There's often a water problem there. We bring baby wipes to wash down in case we can't shower. The Castro's are as kind and hospitable as anyone can be. Great people and great place!

If you meet Conrado Sr. tell him I'll see him soon. I took my equipment there last year and did a tattoo of a sheephead on his forearm.

There is plenty of camping opportunity in the Erendira area. This is our campsite at the 'White Tanks' a few years ago.

Fishing and diving were excellent.
