i just picked up two spools 325 yds each of stren hi-test 80# for the grand total of less than $10 shipped. they even included a pack of 2 - 7" berkley power bait power mullets, free!

now, if i could just find a similar deal on a 7-8 foot medium action rod for my penn 4/0 to mount in time for tuna later this summer!

thanks to Santiago for the heads up on this GREAT website!!!!

You're wikky-wackum.
Did the same thing myself. Got a ton of fish baits too. Will try out this week and report.

Great tip, Woody!

One however, however...

They are limited in what they carry, no crocs, no cedar plugs, no rebels...:no::no::no::?::?::?::?:

woody with a view - 3-27-2010 at 02:35 PM

yes! but the 50% or more i save on the stuff they sell leaves me feeling good about paying full retail for the rest......

Udo - 3-27-2010 at 02:52 PM

You are correct, Woody.
Their reels and line are really inexpensive.

Thanks for the link, another place online to explore!

BajaBruno - 3-28-2010 at 11:21 PM

This place is linked to several store names. The prices are good, but as noted, the availability is limited. I'm assuming they pick up discontinued and close-out stuff from suppliers.

You are really optimistic with 80#, your not going to see many 80# tuna unless you go long range. I use 50 or 60# on my heavy outfits, and catch 40 lb halibut on 15# all the time. Lighter lines catch more fish, for the most part.

youre right there are not many 80lb tuna around but they are here and there are bigger bluefin and bigeye that show up sometimes in Northern Baja/ So Cal Offshore and if you are trolling with 50lb, good luck! If you are trolling with 80lb you can get the troll fish to the boat faster, not lose the school and continue fishing bait with a lighter stick.

woody with a view - 3-31-2010 at 04:39 PM

being the tuna rookies that we are, we prefer to get them into the boat before the seals get to them.....

Frank - 3-31-2010 at 09:25 PM

No seals when I take you and Randy out this year!
