The Toll Road and Federales vs. Cops

Gaucho - 3-26-2010 at 07:19 PM

It's my understanding that only Federales have jurisdiction on the toll roads. Is this accurate?

federales in the blue cars are your friend. cops in white cars not so much..... at least in the big towns.

Yes, on a federal highway the feds have jurisdiction. I was going to the border the other day and passed a Rosarito cop car doing about 80. I guess he didn't like it so he caught up and passed me doing 90.

By the way. For those of you traveling the toll road do you ever see the fed patrol cars? I only see them at the toll gates and that isn't very often.

I saw one only once on the toll road between Tecate and Mexicali. He did have someone pulled over. Later passed us going toward Tecate, but that has been the only time.

Federales

Saw a federales radar trap on Rt.1, a bit north of of Ensenada, a month ago. :light:

About 9 months ago, I was returning from San Felipe taking the new toll road around Mexicali to Tecate. I was the only car on the road and I had a Federale come out of the blue speeding to catch up with me. I was a bit nervous as I didn't think I was speeding. Well he got out of his car and stood at the back of the van I was driving and waved to me to get out and come to the back of the car. I did and once I got around the corner, the officer pointing out the rubber on the back bumper was dragging on the ground. He even helped me tape it up and left with 'Vaya con Dios'

What a great experience!

haven't seen any between Rosarito and Playas in a long time. I'm generally going 70-75mph and getting passed.

They don't travel around alone as much as they used to. Safety in numbers, as they say.

Now truckloads of the Marinas I see all the time- everywhere.. but you don't have to worry about them passing you on the toll road.

Not sure why, but my experience is having seen more federal police in and around the San Quintin valley than anywhere else along the entire stretch of Mex 1.
