we'll be down mid may. i'll let you know before then any ?'s and if you need us to bring ya anything.

3464james - 3-27-2010 at 08:11 AM

Good to hear that you are there and reporting "live". We rent palapa 7, please tell me that everything is still there. Is the wind still blowing dust over everything? The last time we were there, November, the sand accumulation was horrible. Did you find out why Rafael graded off the back 40? We herd that the road had been graded for another 10 miles past the black top, true?
Thanks for the help,
Jim D.

cj5orion - 3-27-2010 at 09:03 AM

WOW ! lot of Q's right there !
Yeah,,,dust is still here.
otherwise,place is intact
when the wind isnt blowin...its great !
back 40 got graded for "developement" :bounc
dont wait for it to happen though. There is that "new" seawall though, werent they jus starting that in Nov.? Dust has gotten to within 2 feet of covering it !
Theres a fairly well established "fish camp" at the South end now.I tried to post a pic,but at 50k size limit, you cant see a thing.
road is graded for maybe,,5miles maybe ?
palapa 7 ? isnt that doug/debs "old" palapa ?
I'm at Chris's palapa,the one with the big garage,but he's selling out!(dust)need anything?still a little stuff left
Rafeal will be the new owner of the palapa/garage ! I'll be "visiting" over at gregs place from now on.(the other big garage)

dizzyspots - 3-27-2010 at 09:00 PM

cj...how long will you be down there...planning on going back down Apr 24-28 for some camping and kayak fishing....maybe a short trip to see Coco
Mike

3464james - 3-27-2010 at 09:34 PM

Yes it is Doug and Deb's old place. Mike, my son in law, and Glen were the other two. As you probably know Glen died and Brenda didn't want to come down any more, Doug bought their trailer and put in front of his chateau in Alfonsinas, "capitalist dog".
Doug took the other little trailer and gave it to a fellow who is supposed to do outboard repair. This however remains to be seen.
What did Chris do with his boat?
Sorry to see Chris sell out. Everybody seems to be moving on. When we were there in November we were the only ones in the palapas and yes the sea wall was finnished. The sand was already up to the top in front of our place.
It took the nice lady who's husband runs the Pemex, three days to clean our two trailers and another half day for us when we got there, sand was terrible.
Hope that we will get an opportunity to meet you I am not sure when we will be coming down. We just returned from overseas and will be probably be going back in June.
Thanks again for the heads up,
Jim D.

David K - 3-28-2010 at 08:01 AM

Instead of reducing a photo to post here... use a photo hosting web site that can resize the image so it is still 'big' and that way no Nomad space is used... and you can post several photos in on post... See my how to post a photo on Nomad post (in the photos forum).

3464james - 3-28-2010 at 04:18 PM

CJ,
forgot to ask, does Chris have any photovolectic cells or that wind generator, that he wants to sell?
Thanks.
Jim D.

cj5orion - 3-29-2010 at 06:19 AM

no, the only solar still for sale is a xantrex inverter
sold the boat
in 2 weeks,I'll be "strippin" the place of anything left

3464james - 3-29-2010 at 06:31 AM

CJ, thanks again for the info.
Jim D.

How many planes do you expect this weekend?

steekers - 3-29-2010 at 08:08 PM

Me and the Mrs. plan to fly down there for the weekend. I hear a good size group of pilots will be there.

Have the winds been somewhat calm this last week?

Think parking at Alphys will be any problem?

Thanks CJ

cj5orion - 3-30-2010 at 06:14 AM

winds have been calm, but, with that storm comin in to san diego....that can change ????
Alphy's ????? probably gonna be crowded.
this place is startin to look like mission beach on july 4th !!!

3464james - 3-30-2010 at 06:19 AM

Check my post on items wanted.

Mucho Viento

bonanza bucko - 3-31-2010 at 11:54 AM

Last night we had 40 knots out of the west. This morning more of the same from the SW...blew a lot of dust on the Palapas..don't think I would stay there. Alfy's cantina is chockablock.
Temp is around 80 but the wind makes it cold.

David K - 3-31-2010 at 03:58 PM

Gonzaga Bay internet

bonanza bucko - 3-31-2010 at 04:35 PM

We have HughesNet sat internet and a solar electricity system. We have been here since 1979 and I gotta tell you this place is pretty close to downtown anywhere if you look at the stuff that is available to you by unusual means....The solar electric plant we have produces 36 amps of 120v AC and gives us power all night via some big L-16 solar batteries. The batteries are charged back to full everyday by about noon if the sun is shining....1500 if it isn't. The Sat internet is pretty good too....fast downloads and kinda slow uploads. We can use SKYPE for voice and video calls to another computer with good results....but the computer to phone calls suffer from breakup and delay due to the uplink speed. That should be getting better.

We still use salt water toilets and fresh water outa a barrel for washing with drinking water coming from the Rancho Grande RO system. We use propane for cooking and water heating.

All the comforts of "home" which this place is for us a large part of the time.

Most of the fun for me is tinkering...I LOVE to make stuff work and, especially, stuff that is produces something that is hard to get in a place like this such as electricity, sat internet and a hot shower.:bounce:

cj5orion - 4-1-2010 at 07:50 AM

hey bonanza bucko;
wheres your place at down here ?
I'm in palapa 3,gregs place.

capt. mike - 4-1-2010 at 08:29 AM

Bruce has one of the coolest shacks there.
each time i have walked over to say hey he was not there nor his plane , a V bonanza i think? either.
some day i want to experience the signature event he has spoke of which is october with as i recall all three of the following occuring at once?

moon is up full and bright, sun is setting but still up so you have a twilight thang happnin, and there is a fire going off to keep warm.... yeah - i like it!

bonanza bucko - 4-1-2010 at 11:04 AM

for CJ5:
We are in house number 36..the white jobbie. Inside mostly today....mucho Viento.

stop by for a beer.
BB

bonanza bucko - 4-1-2010 at 11:07 AM

For Capt. Mike:
My picture of the moonlight, sunlight and firelight is a slide taken in about 1985...never scanned for transmission here. But we had a full moon Tuesday and it would have worked then...only we didn't have a beach fire.

Yep...you're right. Our bird is a Beach V35A. We have owned it for 24 years and I have almost 2500 hours in its left seat.....she knows where I wanna go even if I don't.

BB:bounce:

capt. mike - 4-1-2010 at 12:09 PM

sweet - what would you do if you, once having tasted it, had to quit flying to your special place in paradise??

i think i'd have to open a vein, or at least a large bottle of cactus juice.

see you on one of the next low tides.

bonanza bucko - 4-1-2010 at 02:00 PM

For Capt, Mike and other wing nuts:
That would be hard. But our son, Chris, has taken to flying the Bonanza quite a bit. His wife of three years thought that all small plane flying was like a ride she had in his Aeronca Champ were the door flew open...didn't understand that you don't need a door to fly and that it's better without one below about 120 kts.
I also just put a new engine (better than factory new) into it along with the 406 MHZ ELT we gotta have, new tinted window doublers in back, a new engine and fuel management system and like that. The engine has GAMIs and fine wire plugs and the crank was balance to half a gram so flight is smooooooth and sweeet and very fast. Only problema is $5.35 per gallon for gasolina in the USA and almost that down here.

But you gotta fly to live.

....and, despite all of that, we have been driving most of the time lately because we are retired and don't need fast trips, I don't wanna park The Bird outside for three weeks and The Boss has been requiring loads of house stuff that won't fit in any airplane smaller than a C-130.

Hi BW!

Wish I could stay longer, but have to be back on Sun.

We will need to link up soon for some good times on the bay.

Hope your trip goes well!

dizzyspots - 4-2-2010 at 01:19 PM

CJ any report on the fishing...planning a trip down there Apr 24-28

what direction and speed winds today?

steekers - 4-2-2010 at 06:45 PM

Just curious what the winds have been today?

Are there too many planes to fit one more by the restaurant?

Thanks!

bonanza bucko - 4-2-2010 at 07:18 PM

The wind has been about 10 knots out of the east all day and now it's dead calm. The forecast is for light winds and good WX until about Monday when we're supposed to get wind again.

There is only one bird here...a Bonanza that flew in tonight. The parking at the cantina on the burm above the high tide line is currently full of motor homes and cars/trucks from the Easter crowd. But we are gonna have low tides for the next week or so...you can park by the old gas dock which is under water at high tide.

It was very cool today...71F...but supposed to be warming up until next week.

BajaWaverunner - 4-20-2010 at 12:43 PM

Are you still in Gonzaga and able to provide live reports? Looking for some weather info - day time, night time, wind, if you can provide. Thanks!

bonanza bucko - 4-20-2010 at 04:39 PM

BajaWaverunner:
We are back in SD but you can get the current and local WX at Gonzaga Bay here: http://www.wunderground.com/webcams/lightner/1/show.html It's a webcam at Paper Fernandez across the bay....shows the wind speed and direction in the shot.
