The accordian...key to community integration

This photo really portrays how music transcends borders...how playing together goes a long way towards integration into a community not to mention the joy it brings.

I am so proud of my amiga Nancy who bought an accordian with the hope of learning the local favorite songs so she could play with the musicians here. It has been so wonderful to watch and a pleasure to listen to her play with various people in the village....this family asked her for a little lesson on the son's accordian.

Local musician now ask her to come and play with them when they perform at parties...here they are at the despedida....bittersweet evening it was as we celebrated our friendship and cried as we had to bid them farewell until they return in october...sniff sniff...excuse me, I think I have something in my eye:(

It is very heartwarming to see how the newcomers to our village are integrating each in their own way, forging new friendships, sharing their talents an skills with their new neighbours and immersing in the culture. And equally wonderful to see the locals accepting them into the fold and embracing new ideas.

Well we're travelling north and have made it to "where the heck is this Motel California". I would write a trip report, but it would just say "uneventful". Which actually is not a bad thing considering other long road trips that involved busted trailer springs and other physical/emotional breakdowns.

Best part of the long drive is playing the new Ranchero CD over and over and over to learn some new licks.

Hey I just realized I'm a Junior Nomad! Makes me feel like my first day as a CGIT.

We're an hour east of Portland if you need a layover in the Gorge.
Maybe you could give Pam a few tips on making money with all this pottery equipment we have set up in her studio ??

Hey Diver, thanks. Too bad we're going through Salt Lake City tomorrow. Luckily I got Tecate's in Tecate. Nice and fresh.
Pam....hmmmm...maybe we'll not make pottery together in Asuncion! That would be fun.
