15 Years since Selena's Passing

Ken Cooke - 3-31-2010 at 05:35 PM

15 yrs. ago, after the untimely tragedy affecting Selena and her family and music group, I took my Selena cassettes to Rosarito Beach and listened to her music all afternoon long at a favorite restaurant of mine.

Such a tragic ending to such a promising future. Just watched her last concert again over the weekend too. There will never be another like her. Such a down to earth warm caring person. Long Live the Memory of SELENA!!!!!

Agreed, noproblemo2! We are big Selena fans in my house. I heard on the radio this morning that it has been 15 years since she was killed. I can't believe it has been so long, yet her music is so timeless.

Never heard her .....

I was in Corpus Christi Texas the day she died and had to deal with all the police action. They had streets blocked and it created some big traffic jams. Truly a very sad story.

No, way before American Idol (the show). She was Mexican-American Tejano singer...here is the wiki link:

She just went by the name Selena. If you have never listened to her music you can click the link Ken attached or go to youtube to see video, but look for videos by "Selena" not Selena Gomez...two different people. Also there was a movie made about Selena's life where Selena was played by J-Lo.. I love Selena's music and still listen to her after all this time.

I went to see her movie (when I lived in Michigan) back in '96. After her murder, I went to K-Mart and bought all of her CDs that I could find. Before that, all I had were her cassettes from the Tijuana pirateria. The stores were flooded at the time with her CDs and then were suddenly impossible to find.

Her backup singer Pete Astudillo's rememberance song of her "Como te extrano" was deleted and can be seen as a live performance, but the original song is no longer available for purchase - you can't even see the video on YouTube!

Fifteen Years ? No Scheisse. Seems just like ayer.

It's difficult for me to verbalize the immense effect that Selena "What's her Name ?" had on my life then and now.

I can only imagine with difficulty how much different my existence would have been without hers.

Pardon me. I must go meditate now.

Save your rudeness for off-topic please. There are people that care about things you and I may never understand.

Rude ? Moi ?

AND, here I thought I was expressing my heartfelt appreciation of Tejana Suprema Selena.

The World just hasn't been the same since.

And, never will be again.

Looks like I need to start more music threads to educate the Off-Topic members about Latin music???

If loving Tejano is wrong, I refuse to be right!

Savoring Selena

Yeah, "WAS" is the operative word. A looker. In fact, she looked a lot like a professional gal I once knew for a short time. Probably wasn't her, though. The gal I knew used a different name which may, or may not, have been the real one.

I find it BIZARRE that someone could have an obsession over a "performer" of whatever talent who's been dead for a long time. No doubt, she was good at her particular brand of music and, if you're into that style, that's OK, but getting Maudlin is a little weird.

Besides, there just isn't a lot of mourning time available right now. Besides the aforementioned June Havoc, there's Peter Graves and Robert Culp.

So little time. So many icons.
