I have some photos online from my recent trip to Baja. It was a solo trip and I left Feb 1st and returned Feb 21st. The peninsula was very wet because
of all the storms they had in January and I'll bet the wildflowers are going to be amazing this spring.
Anyway, trip report is here **Linky Linky ** and a few pics I liked are below. My albums are heavy with bird pictures. I'm a bird biologist and I like birds, what can I
say...
Few teasers...

ursidae69 - It's great to have you posting here again. Your pictures are wonderful! I haven't finished looking at all of them yet.
Decided to save some for tonight's dessert.
btw The me that's still learning loves knowing that all your birds are correctly identified.
Thank you ever so much.

Your albums are fantastic... Folks, go to his albums!
ursidae69 - 4-7-2010 at 04:13 PM
Thanks David and Bajaboy.
Nena: I am 99% sure of my bird IDs. I had some doubts on a few of the terns, elegant versus royal, but had fun shooting the pictures nonetheless.

Very, Very Nice!
Thanks----and never are there too many birds.

The difference between the 2 cameras is amazing. And the G9 is considered one of the best point-and-shoot cameras. What was your most common lens?
I tried to key out the whiptail but it wasn't in my Peterson guide. It has the colors of our local skinks but the hind legs are more powerful.

Fantastic photos--you're an artist!
Bird question---during the El Nino of 1997 at Punta Abreojos the water and air were much warmer than usual and I remember a bird there that had the
body of a small duck, white, and its head with long pointed beak. All it did all day long was walk up and down the high tide line and eat flies. It
was also quite tame, we were able to get within a few feet of it. I haven't seen that type of bird since and can only assume it was a more southerly
bird that came north with the El Nino that year...any idea what it was?

Thanks for all the great comments, you all rock! I’ve always
appreciated the wealth of information at this site and I’m glad to contribute a little back. I wish I could say I’m heading back soon, but I think my
next big trip will be elsewhere. I do plan to go to San Carlos Sonora at Thanksgiving though. To answer a few of the questions:
Irenemm: That was a sunrise at the end of the trip at Playa Los Frailes.
Skipjack Joe: For the wildlife I was shooting with a 100-400mm f4.5-5.6L and for landscape I was mostly using my 17-40mm f/4.0 L. On that whiptail,
I have it narrowed down to a couple different subspecies based on the Lee Grismer text (Amphibians and Reptiles of Baja California). I should have
noosed it and got pictures in the hand, but I was lazy.
Mexitron: I know North American passerines pretty well, but I’m awful with shorebirds. Sorry, no clue.
Don Jorge: Those Eurasian collared doves are amazing with how much they move. They were accidentally introduced into Florida about 20 years ago and
now they are damn near ubiquitous. It is unfortunate for the native doves.

Saw your foto album,
Beautiful and awsome foto.
Can I ask what camera do you have and with what lens did you sooth it?
The whales where great, it was a pitty for us that we hadn't the right period of the year to see them but we are willing to come back just to say ciao
to the whales.

Very nice Chuck. Nice website. I'm envious of your even more grand 3-week trip than my own. I'm headed out May 3-27, next week. Also SOLO (but still
looking for a ride buddy in the other forum). The last time I could afford 3 weeks was back in 1993. I just got around to posting that trip report
<hehe>. Thanks for sharing. Thanks for the RECENT road and other info via images & text. Much appreciated. And from another photographer,
you have a good eye for photo material.
OMG! What a difference 17 years makes. I just realized we each have a photo of the same spot at the same angle along the San Felipe trail from
Puertecitos to Gonzaga. I think. Compare your 2010 photo ... http://www.chucksweb.net/Trips/2010/Baja2010/BajaNorte2010/a...
with my 1993 photo (flat tire at this spot) ... http://www.andrewburg.com/baja1993/baja1993_110.jpg
Note the little high point in the hill to the right of my Chevy Suburban vs. the little high point in the hill in your photo. WOW! Before and after
photos don't happen that often much less that closely. Am I right?
