Bank Not Exchanging Dollars

sancho - 4-9-2010 at 08:31 PM

Saw a post off a mainland board, Sonora, that claims
Banamex, as of this coming Mon., will not exchange
dollars for pesos. Don't know if this will affect
Baja Banamex's or not. Don't know if all
Banks are affected. Appers to be a Federal
action. Has something to do with money
laundering. Travellers checks will continue to
be accepted. I assume money exchange places
will still change dollars

Hola sancho, i am not sure if that will happen on monday or not but i just went to a banamex this past wednesday and exchanged $ 500.00, their limit but was required to show my passport. bancomer on the other hand will not exchange money unless you have an account with them. they will not hand over the cash but make you go to their atm to withdraw funds. i'm not sure of their limit or the limit set by your bank in the u.s.

been like that here in mulege for about a year

you need an account and if you exceed 25,000 pesos a month there is a fee

use the peso exchanges at the border before you cross and
atm machines here if you can stand paying their fees

hsbc had been like that for about a year also. all banks are supposed to do that . even with dollar account could only get pesos out. NO DOLLARS. that is what happened in 1982. all dollar accounts frozen and turned into pesos.
Banamex here in Vicente Guerrero told us we could change dlls if we have an account. Let's see after monday.
Bob and susan make sure that amount did not change to 15,000. it did at hsbc. You pay a tax on cash deposit over 15,000. pesos per month.
yup all the drug dealers put there money in the banks. Then never build hotel and restaurants on the hwy. right.
