Will hanging CD's work on pesky squirls and rabbits eating my plants?bajahorselover - 4-13-2010 at 08:27 AM
Inside the house and on the porch, I used SNIP, which was available here in San Felipe....it looks like decorative "sugar". You wet a paper towel and
put the towel on a paper plate...then sprinkle the SNIP. After a few days, you will have a plate full of dead flies. Just re-wet the paper towel as
it dries out....great stuff! Haven't been able to find it here this season tho
Since I have horses here....waging war on flies is a big part of my life. There is a product called CEADARCIDE which I buy online...it is very
concentrated and I mix 3 tablespoons in a half gallon of water and spray both my corral and my porches at the house....it doesn't smell like poison,
and works pretty well....doesn't really kill the flies, but instead they go somewhere else. I also use fly traps called TRAP N TOSS..... I hang them
everywhere around the corral and one inside my house and one on my porch....they catch thousands of flies and last weeks...then you just throw them
away....they come with a little tube of the stinkiest stuff you have ever smelled in your life!...be careful NOT to get any of it on yourself!!!!
Hope this helps.bajahorselover - 4-13-2010 at 08:31 AM

Have you tried one of those big plastic owls with the rotating heads?....sometimes they work, sometimes they don'tmeme - 4-13-2010 at 10:05 AM
Mopping floors & countertops with Fabulosa helps. The flies dont like it!
I use a spray bottle of slightly dituted fabulosa to wipe down outside tables bars etc. We have an owl to keep birds from roosting over or near
outside tables or bar.BMG - 4-13-2010 at 10:15 AM
Here is a bug zapper that really works. The TIZ-3 3000 volt zapper is way more powerful than other hand held zappers that I've used. Something satisfying about a loud electric pop when
swatting a fly or mosquito.mulegemichael - 4-13-2010 at 10:20 AM
believe it or not, geraniums are a POWERFUL fly deterrent!....they grow like mad down here and the flies just will not come around them; plant a
bunch..they're beautiful!...it really, really worksMulegena - 4-13-2010 at 10:22 AM

lisa marie...i think it would take a LOT of geckos, wouldn't it?
hehehe!
Mulegena - 4-13-2010 at 10:36 AM
Yup, probably a whole herd of the little guys.
A couple summers ago we were sitting out on the patio and watched the geckos catch the insect hatchlings as they emerged and flew towards the
sparkling lights boardering the patio edgetop. Those cute little reptiles gorged themselves, bellies actually grew fat in just a few minutes, insect
wings sticking out of their mouths!
For flies, I keep a flyswatter at hand and screens closed.boe4fun - 4-13-2010 at 11:05 AM
Hi Maria, I think it's spelled hehenee (jejene?).Bugman - 4-13-2010 at 01:46 PM
Unfortunately, the only way to really keep houseflies in check is to locate the breeding areas and bring those under control. They need moist areas
with lots of organic matter that stay moist for at least 5-7 days. That organic matter can be anything from fecal matter to rotting fruit or
vegetation. In areas with poor sanitation the culprit is often rotting garbage. Controlling existing adults is tough and more often than not you
only succeed in getting some of them. Don't waste your money on anything that claims to repel them with sound (these things don't work and are a
farce). Bug zappers are pretty much a waste of money and electricity too since they mostly attract harmless insects that would have not come near you
had you not turned the zapper on in the first place. However, if you are one of those that gets that deep down feeling of satisfaction every time you
hear the sizzle when a harmless bug gets fried then by all means fry on! For a real treat, mount one over the barbecue for free burger seasoning
Nothing works, millions of people all over the world and tru history are witnesses to that realityCypress - 4-13-2010 at 02:03 PM

Predator flies
They kill the horse flies, black flies and greenies that hound our chickens and horses.
The bags of water are reported to work much better if you put in a shiny penny. I don't know why it supposedly works but it sure seems to make a
difference. We have a restaurant in Colorado that hangs quite a few on their outdoor patio and I have yet to see a fly there, ever.TMW - 4-17-2010 at 08:22 AM
I heard on the radio yesterday that the practice of putting a lime into a corona or any beer was to keep the flies away, they don't like the lime
juice. Perhaps mixing lime and water and spraying it may do the same trick. However I would think a zapper would be more usuful.bajahorselover - 4-17-2010 at 08:34 AM

I have used fly predators in the States, and they work wonders. But they are sent in the mail every month during fly season.... My question is would
they clear customs and make it here to my Yet Mail P.o. Box...they are pretty pricey to risk getting confiscated!!!!Paulina - 4-17-2010 at 09:36 PM
I always wanted to circle the camp with the extra wide sticky bug tape/paper that the farmers use to detect what type of insect is bothering their
crops, so they know what to spray for.
I envisioned that it would capture all the flies and mosquitoes that would have invaded my camp, and stand as a warning to all the others to stay
away.
I also have plenty of fly swatters on hand, at various places around camp.
When I take a siesta in the afternoon I position a flyswatter into my armpit so it stands tall like a warning flag to any fly that dares to interrupt
my beauty sleep. It really works. Serious.

I remember now going to Mexican house parties where the ladies sprinkled lime juice on all the food & drink tables. They said it helped keep the
flies away as they don't like it so well.rts551 - 4-18-2010 at 07:00 PM
They love beer, so of course entice them with your empty cans... away from your porch or door way.Sallysouth - 4-18-2010 at 08:21 PM
Hey Judy, That appears to be a very "green" lemon, also a very thin rind.Sure it isn't a limon? That fly has a very red butt!!.Ah! a
Baja Redbuttfly!!

Sally
Actually everyone here calls them oranges. They are not limones but they are not really naranjas tampoco.....they taste like cilantro to me.
That one was still on the tree in my yard after a machete wielding gardener did some pruning.

I believe Sally's fruit is a lima....which I LOVE too...very mild not acidic taste that seems to be aquired and makes lovely fresh lima-ade. When we
eat them, we just chew the peices and spit out the skin....they are very good for your stomach.
