Friends, Shirley Miller's death caused me to look up her book with Tom--Baja Guide circa 1973. Then I came across my favorite--The People's Guide to
Mexico w/ Carl Havens & Lorena Havens & Steve. Picking thru my library & finding their People's Guide was like going back to the
70's. The absolute best book with anectodal stories & info that today stands as a must read! Hilarious stories of local people's curiosity,
shamans, & just plain Mexico!! Diahreaa & dried scorpion dust! Camping on the coast w/nothing! The original " How To book" ! Are Carl
& Lorena still alive??!Their stories of friend Steve leading them into another unbelievable , comical story!!!!Crossing the border with the Baby
Coffin & Customs tearing their Van apart is Classic!! Gracias Carl & Lorena! Que les Vayan Bien Smileswoody with a view - 4-16-2010 at 06:45 PM

I still have a copy of the book. It educated me and fueled my love for Mexico and Baja. tjBill - 4-16-2010 at 11:27 PM
I love the People's Guide to Mexico. I regularly reference it. Probably the best guide to Mexican culture.chippy - 4-17-2010 at 07:08 AM
I am happy to say that I am friends with that crazy bunch of adventurers off spring. That bunch being Carl,Lorena, and Steve of Peoples Guide fame and
John and Eve Muir of VW complete idiots fame. I am not happy to say that all the guys have passed away. Eve lives in New Orleans and Lorena last I
heard was in the lake Chapala area. Their kids are carrying on with the same love of adventure and fun that their parents had and have.
Both those books have been with me since my first solo trip to mainland Mexico in a 67 VW bug back in 1973. They are and forever will be CASSICS.
Shouldn´t this topic be in the General catagory?

Shirley Miller-- God Bless you. May you rest in Peace.
First Met Tom and Shirley at the small Airstrip at Cabo Pulmo Coral Reef. I was sleeping in my Cessna 170. Itwas my second trip. They had built a
small Palapa near the strip. They were in the process of completing their Book. So must have been 1972.
Great Folks!!!

Question before I go. Were Tom & Shirley Miller friends of Carl lFranz & his sweet Lorena. Steve sounds like he could have worked at
Rolling Stone Magazine! Need info. Tio
