Did anyone else see the backup on the 5/805 merge at the border last evening. It looked like the wait had to be at least 3-4 hours. What a
nightmare! Plus the newsman reported that there were a few incidents of road rage that were making it an even bigger mess. They reported that the
reason was increased scrutiny going into Mexico. I'm definitely using Otay Mesa next time I cross. |
I was stuck in it. Got in line at 4pm and finally crossed south at 5:45. I'm sure it got worse into the real rush hour.
Mexico had the last lanes on the left closed and once people saw the "red X" up ahead they all tried to push everyone over to the right. Many
Tijuaneros cruised past us all on the left side breakdown lane and cut in front at the cement barriers. So many in fact they actually made their own
lane and squeezed everyone else over (those uber-aggressive driver types are not good about alternating BTW)
The CHP could help by enforcing no-driving-in-breakdown-lane laws on the US side, and Mexico could help by opening all its southbound lanes. At $300 a
pop- the hundred or more cars go past in the breakdown lanes would have been a CA profit center.
I would love to see one CHP car send everyone driving in the "U-Turn To USA" lane back to the USA and make them go to the back of the line and wait
like everyone else.
