A Shot Across The Bow

The weather is getting warmer, the days longer, and it's a great time to hit the water.

Come on along and I'll take you for a spin around Conception Bay.


Barga Island always has plenty of birds..and bugs, too. will recall the little black bo-bos doing their races on the brim of your cap..fun!

Always good to see these cormorants in the bay..means there is plenty of baitfish around..and larger fish under them!

Tons of shells there...literally tons.

Left over from the 'overharvesting of scallop days'..grrrr... There are hundreds of piles of these old scallop shells scattered all around the Bay's shoreline. What a waste that was..and in such a short time. A monumental greedy mistake

Below see an un-inhabitated stretch of endless desert...about 1/4 mile across at least...where no human have ever set foot...

Well..okay...maybe some old stone-age Kochimi left these footprints with his sneakers..

Above, while beachcombing at Jingle Beach across the bay..I came across this fossilized skeleton of an Unicorn.

And I had always thought they were just a myth.....

...I wonder what else is out there?

Santa Barbara beach:

I landed ashore there last week. There are no signs of construction. There is a big watchdog that belongs to the watchman/guard with a trailer set back just a few yards from the beach. I think the watchdog is supposed to intimidate people from trespassing because it starts barking and running towards you. I didn't see the watchman.

Turns out the dog is very friendly. He wanted to escape by trying to jump into my boat. Then he went splashing and swimming with us. In his exhuberance, he jumped up on me and his nails gouged a long, deep cut on my forearm that was actually a big hole at one end of the scratch. It bled profusely, but I disinfected it when I got home a couple of hours later and it is healing nicely. Of course, the poor dog couldn't have known what he had done....or could he? Maybe his nails are his weapons of choice.

Ouch, oladulce..I can feel your pain/cold. The wind can be hellish here at times, too. I believe that this season has been the windiest I can recall in 40 years. Seems like most of March and April have been too windy to fish or boat in comfort.

I've a hilarious mental image of your blowing barbeque lid ... ...and am glad it didn't end up in the next county like a couple of my lounge chairs. (they are out there somewhere...maybe they'll become dorado paddies?)

Congratulations on retiring to your dream place. Hang on, it only gets better.

Hola Tony..hey, I know that pooch well and now we always take him a treat when visiting Barbara Cove. I miss the old place when it was completely bare of human development, save a very rough trail to bounce over on a motorbike or Jeep. We had many a picnic there with Bay neighbors over the years...sometimes a huge party and a lua with roast pig made in a pit, Hawaiian style. Guess we can say goodbye to those times. Oh well, there are lots of other places that are still pristine. How about plotting a new course now?..say..to Galapagos Island?

The only trouble with moving to Galapagos Island is more immigration laws..so...we can disguise ourselves as these dolphin we cruised with the other day.
