Crossing Back to U.S.

meme - 4-28-2010 at 07:29 AM

Has anyone had any experience cossing back to U.S without a paasport or passport card recently?
Like possibly thru Tecate or ?

DENNIS - 4-28-2010 at 07:47 AM

Yeah...a few weeks ago. What's up?

noproblemo2 - 4-28-2010 at 07:57 AM

Just be prepared for a good questioning.........

Nothings up! I have friends coming thru there if possible to come to San Felipe . They have no passports as yet , waiting for them to come by mail. Just hoping they can get back thru without too much problem if they have Drivers Licences & Birth Certificates?

They could have the receipts for the passport order with them... as they may have to have sent in their birth certificates with the applications.

without these you could be deported to the US:lol::lol:

meme - 4-29-2010 at 08:42 AM

WE just don't want them to get toooo much delay as they have jobs in U.S. they are still tied to. But Im also thinking like David they might be ok with just receipts for passports & DL as I am hearing from other sources that these ID's are still being accepted.
Thank you for your replies.

durrelllroberts has me quoted as saying something I never said... was wondering why?

meme - 4-29-2010 at 09:06 AM

No Idea!

sancho - 4-29-2010 at 09:25 AM

There is a Tijuana Forum I was just reading,
several posts within the last 5 days, DL's still
being accepted, not even with Birth Certs
for coming back. I would not hesitate
on having your friends down.
Although as of last Mar, I believe TECHNICALLY Mex IMM
according to the new regs, requires
a Passport of US citizens for stays of more than 72 hrs,
not being enforced,
the new Regs are a little fuzzy

Well, as the rules say we must all have passports to return now, it appears it may not be anymore enforced on May 1 than it is on April 29?
Dont the rules say if you are staying more than 72 hours you must get an FMT also ?
I know of no one that does that coming to SF?

Woooosh - 4-29-2010 at 10:57 AM

The agents themselves are divided about enforcement of the passport requirement. Many don't think a US citizen needs to show a passport to enter the USA. The whiter you are, the easier that is... of course. Just be nice and respectful and you'll be fine.

meme - 4-29-2010 at 11:13 AM

Yes Woooosh, we often find on listening to Border stories that nice & respectful are what could & should be done!

:lol: Bad time for that disclosure, meme, given the illegal immigration debate going on in a few other threads.:lol:

Well, look at it this way? I do not know everyone coming here!

Apples, Oranges and Nuts

MrBillM - 4-29-2010 at 12:37 PM

The 72-hour law, of course, has nothing to do with the U.S. passport requirement since it's a MEXICAN law.

meme - 4-29-2010 at 12:41 PM

I just used it as an example!

Bajamatic - 4-29-2010 at 01:20 PM

I came across without one recently. As of today the law says that the Border Agent has the right to allow you to enter if he believes you're a US citizen. HOWEVER - after June 5th or something like that crossing the border without a valid passport carries a $500 fine. At least that's what the agent told me.

But as far as my experience has gone, the Mexican Immigration people have required a US passport before they will issue the FM-T.

irenemm - 4-29-2010 at 01:54 PM

If you get the FM-T make sure it is signed. they stamp it and most of the time do not sign it. To be valid legally it must be signed. They just did that to my 2 kids and they got hassled for it not being signed too. They did stamp there U.S. passport too.

sancho - 4-29-2010 at 02:50 PM

I don't THINK Mex Imm will issue an fmt without
a passport/passcard. I get 1 when spending
any time in Mex. Many/most san Felipe visitors
do not get fmt's, and as of May 1, called fmm.
My long term Mex Ins states the 72 hr' rule,
regardless of Mex Ins, one is supposed to be in the
country legally. At the Mexicalli Mex Imm, they will
tell you you don't need it for 7 days or less.
That is there position, I prefer to be
prepared. Don't know if the New Regs
will have the same free 7 day fmt or not as
currently available

You can enter the US without any I.D. You declare to the Agent you are a U.S. citizen and they have to let you into the country.. you will be questioned and they will run a check on you to determine that you are who you say you are. It will cost some time, but you will get back in.

oldjack - 5-4-2010 at 09:42 AM

The $500 was probably the estimate to be paid to the Coyote for pointing out the direction of the entry point!!!!!

Birth Certificate and DL are find; there are people who cross daily with them. You probably won't even get sent to secondary, especially if you do not look Hispanic.
