Any Current Info on Hwy 5 San Felipe?

Headed down May 12, are there still
Hwy construction detours off
the pavement near the Ensenada Road?
Are they collecting canned food,etc.
for the Earthquake families?
or should I just take things to
San Felipe?
thanks for your time

Came down yesterday. From the four lane, they are using a bypass road for about four miles. Muddy and bumpy. Then typical road, until about five miles to the temporay inspection site, then up on the new road, and down to the side road. Not bad. Worst part, just south of Mexicali from the four lane.

The construction is mixed up with the earthquake repairs along the way. There are 2 segments that are not so hot, just before you get to and as you leave La Puerta -- it's slow going. Other than that, it's not too bad. Just before you get to the temporary Ensenada checkpoint, you go off road again, but not for long and then it's good going all the way to 20 miles SOUTH OF PUERTECITOS.

If you want to drop off can goods, etc. try the Cucupah Village -- just before the Salada -- they had flour and rice, but no beans last week. Check my blog at www.retirement-mexicomio.blogspot.com for more info on them. The gov put out a notice that no more food was needed because "it's getting warm and it might spoil". Can goods won't of course, and since that group can't fish, they need all the help they can get.
