Electric cost

We have the use of a friend's house in the ejido near SanFelipe and got the electric bill yesterday..

Usage 191 KWh
Rate .392
Total 74.87 (pesos remember)

A little lower

Cost of production = 428.04
Government portion = 353.17

Leaving 74.87

Then lower again

Apoyo Fed, Edo, Mpio -12.62

Amount to pay 69.85

Looks like a pretty healthy subsidy to the consumer by the government for the electricity provided by the government run electric service.

Up till a month ago, the bills had a 3 stage pricing shown in the area that the consumer pays.
first 75 KWh around 3.9
next 125 KWh about 8.4
all ? above - about 1.89

With those prices, it would have been quite a bit higher.

Houston Chron had a article about the heat in Mexicali (up to about 120 regularly for 3 months in the summer - record of 126 July 95) a few days ago and said they had reduced the elect prices so the poorer could run air conditioners.

Since San Felipe is part of the Municipality of Mexicali, maybe that's what's happening.

divided by 11, which is a rough dollar to peso rate I use, you pay less than $7 for 191 kw. This is about 1/3 less than the raw cost of SDG&E for electric energy (without the surcharges and taxes tacked on).

I wonder if the Mexican government makes money to pay for this subsidy by selling their surplus energy to the states? Then again, it's not like the subsidy they used to have on gasoline.
