I've been listening to Trio Caliente recently. Good stuff. And really off topic - get Jimi's new CD, Valleys of Neptune if you're a Hendrix fan.Dave - 5-9-2010 at 10:43 AM
Trio Caliente is nice but I wouldn't consider what they play as jazz.
My latin jazz recommendations:
Michel Camilo
Elaine Elias
Jerry Gonzalez
Arturo Sandoval
Gato Barbieri
Al Di Meola
I would recommend 1ClubFM.Com (Latin/World Channel)

I'll have my wife make a list of great artists for you. In Colombia (where she comes from), this music is part of the fabric of life.
We saw Grupo Niche in April (At The Mayan-Los Angeles)

There have been a few good threads recently re Music--Reggae to Latin/Salsa recomendations I am still checking into! " I float in Liquid Gardens" is
great for cruising thru the Valle de Los Cirros". Quite a few places that look like the Moon!! I'm a Vodoo Child!! TioBob and Susan - 5-9-2010 at 11:18 AM

bajadock,
The whole Blue Note catalog is full of great artists.
For you local Jazz lovers (San Diego) in two weeks Mose Allison will be playing at Anthology. If you've never caught him, check it out.

Is a trip.
He wrote the seminal blues song about the disinterested patron:
Your mind is on vacation and your mouth is working overtime
You're sitting there yakkin' right in my face
I guess I'm gonna have to put you right in your place
Y'know if silence was golden
You couldn't raise a dime
Because your mind is on vacation and your mouth is working overtime
You're quoting figures, you're dropping names
You're telling stories about them dames
You're always laughin' when things ain't funny
You try to sound like you're big money
If talk was criminal, you'd lead a life of crime
Because your mind is on vacation and your mouth is working overtime
You know that life is short and talk is cheap
Don't be making promises that you can't keep
If you don't like this little song I'm singing, just grin and bear it
All I can say is if the shoe fits wear it
And if you must keep talking please try to make it rhyme
Cause your mind is on vacation and your mouth is working overtime
