We spent May 1st -8th at our home in Campo Bahia Santa Maria. We were told the winds had blown like crazy the previous weeks, but it layed down
perfectly for us the entire week.
Now what sanfelipe.com.mx will never tell you....
How horrible the dirt roads are they built to bypass the earthquake road construction outside of Mexicali. I've driven dirt roads all over the US West
and Baja....and I am talking BAD, barely crushed rock, no, just barely buried rock is more like it. The kind with sharp edges and points aiming for
any tread or sidewall within reach. Saw two 5'ers with shredded tires on this bad boy. Very narrow and crowded with construcition vehicles as well.
NOT a fun experience...your truck/trailer/motorhome will be beat to hell on this one.
This of course this only starts after you are detoured away from road construction happening on Boulevard Aldolfo Lopez Mateo. You get about 1/4 mile
south of the border then the police turn you east and block all avenues to get back on to the main road for several miles.....you are on you own to
find you way back....
Then there is the "normal" crappy dirt bypass road that they have built along side the construction the are doing on route 5. This all addes 1.5
hours of driving time in each direction, unfortunately not something I am going to do again until the roads are done. I know, that may never
happen....but it will take some time for the taste of dirt to leave my mouth and my teeth to stop chattering on this one.
