the bordercrossing

4baja - 7-19-2004 at 07:23 AM

a couple interesting things happened at the crossing last week. it took us 2 hours to cross and the line wasnt even that long, the guards were slower then snails and were checking everything. while in line we saw two fights break out because the car behind happend to tap the car in front with the bumper. the two guys next to me kept falling asleep at the wheel and i had to keep getting out of my truck to wake them up, one time the guy behind him ramed the back bumper and didnt even wake the guy. three lanes over the border guys were giving a sobriety check to a driver thinking he was drunk. the guy to the right of me was pushing his new truck to the left through the lanes to get back to mexico. and when i approached the border the guards walking the lanes ask me if they could stash some stuff that smelled like heroine in the boat trailler for a test for there dogs. i told them that they could as long as it didnt leave any residue for future crossings and they said it wouldnt. well the dog found it easily and i thought that since i was a good sport that they would just wave me through the border but no cigar, they went through everything boat and all. anyway it was good entertainment for 2 hours while waiting in line.

While in line (inside U.S. territory), the dog patrol was walking around the cars when an officer asked me to turn off the motor and hand him the keys, and don't open the door! No explanation... no advance warning.

He then went to the back of my Tacoma and reached up from under it (I saw in mirror). I was very nervous... briefly! The dog came over and found the planted baggie... for which he was greatly rewarded verbally.

The officer came back to my window and thanked me for helping train their dog, and returned my keys!!! "You're welcome??", I said as my heart returned to normal beating!

What? You were an unwilling participant in a training exercise?

That would royally p*ss me off!

news Monday night I heard part of a report that hundreds on middle easterners are trained to work their way through the Mexico - U.S border. It's too early to say if this story will endure and be followed up by actual evidence to which we all savvy, but it makes sense if you consider that many folks from the Middle East already speak Spanish (parts were Spanish territories in the past) and their appearance is similar in some aspects. It's is not time to allow prejudice to get a grip on us but it is a time to pay attention, especially at our southern border for unusual activity. We all know that this border is porous. We can all play a part in helping us Americans and Mexicans protect ourselves.

Anyway, this emerging news may have played a part in the long border waits. The TJ crossing has been a place I've tried to avoid for some time in lieu of another crossing I learned of, thanks to that old scoundrel David E.

To bad there is no where to turn around once you get in the line. Sometimes I'd just rather head back into town untill the madness is a bit slower. All thou watching all the pee'd off people can be entertaining:lol:
