woody, that is so cool. How did you find it?
it looks awesome. anyone ever see that before?
thanks for sharing

i found him as i was walking out of the water from a swim. the tide was very low and it was about 1 foot deep. i just noticed his shape more than color against all of the round cobblestones and when i picked it up he had a passenger.

This is great----good pic

shari - 5-24-2010 at 08:44 AM

I wonder if he is eating that poor little brittle star??

woody with a view - 5-24-2010 at 04:43 PM

the little guy didn't like being out of the water. it was moving noticeably
but i didn't consider it was being eaten....

irenemm - 5-25-2010 at 12:27 AM

that is pretty amazing
Shari are you a marine biologist? i though i read that on your page. what to they eat? how long can they stay out of water? I can google this but I am sure i will get a better answer here.
thank all
really awesome eye you have woody

shari - 5-25-2010 at 07:19 AM

Nope, not a marine biologist...was never good enough at math!! I studied whale behavior and am a naturalist...(nude sunbather!!!:bounce:)...kidding...it's just that that brittle star is very close to the big guys mouth!!!

Good eye Woody!! I don't think the brittle star is being eaten. When brittle stars congregate, normally in the spring, they get on EVERYTHING. Here they are on a red starfish and an anemone:

shari - 5-25-2010 at 07:33 AM

another thought is that the brittle is just getting the leftovers??? cleaning up the crumbs??

DianaT - 5-25-2010 at 08:14 AM

Maybe the brittle star just climbed aboard for a free ride ? You should have asked them, Woody.

Ken,
I sure miss seeing your wonderful underwater photos----you have not posted any for a while-----and it is so great to see a part of the world that many of us never see!
