Any information on the Ensenada-Tecate road would be appreciated. Some of us are ridding motorcycles so I'm "extra" concerned about pot holes, gravel,
sand, killer topes, etc.
Also, What kind of delays should I expect coming back to U.S. through Tecate on Memorial Day? Do you recommend an early morning crossing?
Thanks!!

I would think that the widening and resurfacing of this wection would be just about finished. Would also like to have an update.
Returning to the U.S. after Memorial Day weekend should be pretty bad, I would think. The earlier the better, for sure.

Just a couple of weeks ago the highway was great---no construction slow downs, but the survey crews were active----so we expect more work soon.
I would not expect much of a line early in the morning on Memorial Day, but the afternoon will be slow----last time we did it on a Sunday afternoon,
it was about 45 minutes and the agent said holidays are worse.
Watch out for the potholes in Tecate----there are some big ones!

It was smooth sailing last Saturday. No dirt. But they are getting ready to make improvements on the outskirts of Tecate. I expect the next two
weeks will be clear. After that, I can't say.mulegejim - 5-26-2010 at 06:41 PM
Just drove that route going north this morning and as stated above the road is in very good shape once past Tecate. It does appear as though they are
getting ready for more work on the highway soon. JimDuttati - 6-1-2010 at 12:20 PM
Thank you all for your feedback. This is a great forum!
Yesterday I returned from our weekend escapade into the Valle de Guadalupe. I took a group of 16 friends from South and Central America and NY and
they loved it. Their fear of violence and police corruption quickly dissipaded after crossing the border. I had not been back to Baja for about 4
years... I grew up in Ensenada and I had forgotten the beauty of the land but most of all the beauty and resiliency of its people. The food and wine
was also amazing! My heart aches when I hear of all the problems affecting Baja and Mexico in general.
The "Ruta del Vino" is a wonderful place to explore on motorcycles.

I'll bet it is. The fact remains that most folks only see the Ruta from HWY 3 and don't get off the beaten trail as a group of bikers would. The rest
is no-mans land and I would feel very unsafe being out there, but that's just me. Over-cautious to a fault.
Glad you had a good time.cpg - 7-12-2010 at 10:38 AM
The road from Tecate to Ensenada is under quite a bit of repair. I would add another 30 minutes to the trip at this time.
