8X ready to head South for Baja 500

#1 son and the rest of the 8X team will be heading South tomorrow for prerunning and racing the 500. They are racing in class 22, 7th bike off the line.

Early on during the selection of the team members I generously offered to ride for the team. I even offered to ride an interior leg, not needing the glory of the start or finish. After all, they did let me ride the last leg of the 2007 Baja 1000 and get my picture with Sal. #1 son thanked me profusely for the offer but said that as much as they could use my skills and expertise on the bike my real value would be in the role as "support coordinator".

He reminded me that all the speed in the world is useless without dependable, first rate support. "Fast riders like us" he went on, "are a dime a dozen, the level of support that you represent is priceless".

I, of course accepted the challenge and I'm looking forward to the challenge and camaraderie. When I asked him when he needed me to show up in Ensenada he replied " Oh, any time, just be sure to be at the hotel at check out time.....and bring your credit card......

That's my boy, the fruit doesn't fall far from the tree....dt
