The only times I have ever crossed here is when the SY crossing was backed up NB so I was redireected on to Otay.
I will be flying to La Paz next week and Mapquest shows that Otay Mesa is much closer to the TJ airport. I guess I wanted to confirm that Otay is a
24hr. gate?
Mapquest also indicated there was a Comfort Inn near there. In the past I have always just taken the Shuttle from downtown San Diego but Volaris'
new schedule has the plane leaving at 9:30 in the morning rather than the 1:30 pm flight they used to run. I will be down for a month so I have
family that will drive me down to SD rather than parking a car there for that long. It's a couple hour drive for us so rather than leaving at
o'dark-thirty, I was thinking of going down the night before and checking into the Comfort Inn. In the morning I figured I could just catch a cab to
the border, walk across, then catch a cab to the airport. Has anyone else done this?

Alan,
I have done something similar many years ago. I took the trolley down to the border from San Diego and walked across at TJ. Then, took a cab to the
airport. It was really close...Otay is even closer. I think your plan will be fine.
Good Luck!!!

there's a holiday inn express right there even closer
(walking didtance)
it's pretty easy to get the cab when you cross
maybe the hotel has a shulled service to the crossing point
great plan...it'll work

Muchas Gracias to Bob and Susan. We checked into the Holiday Inn Express the night before the flight and the hotel arranged to have a taxi pick us up
in the morning and take us all the way to the airport. It worked out perfect. It was a little costly @ $65 but understandable and well worth it for
us as we had quite a bit of luggage for our one month stay and the taxi had to cross back north without a fare. of course we pulled a red light and
went into secondary. Customs looked at our luggage (not in our luggage) and waved us through. Coming home we will likely take to Volaris shuttle to
downtown and get picked up there at the bus depot.
