BajaNomad

Bajaboy's new travel companion

zforbes - 6-11-2010 at 09:31 AM

Zac is catching up on his sleep, so he said I could post his big news. Last night he and Tracy welcomed a new little Baja Nomadette to their family, Mikayla Ann. Two year old Gabrielito now has a little sister to play with. The whole family will be here in Asuncion the first two weeks of July to make sure Mikayla gets Baja in her blood from the beginning. And yes, I am doing Snoopy dances about the whole thing! Zoe :bounce:

Thanks everyone! My wife had a much easier delivery this go around and thus we are likely to head to our place in Asuncion at the end of June. I return to work in late July so we want to take advantage of our time together and head down to Baja for a few weeks. We can't wait to introduce young Mikayla to all of our amigos.

Thanks again for all of the well wishes.

Zac

Hugs to you baby Mikayla! Welcome to Earth.
And the center of it--Asuncion:tumble:
Hugs too to your mama and papa, brother, and grandma.
Love Nan and D

That is really wonderful news. However, should Zac care to reply, to amuse this old man, I was wondering where the name Mikayla came from. I only ask, from a personal perspective in that I have seen and encountered several babies who have been named Mikayla recently. I have a daughter named Jennifer. She was born in 1972. Records reveal that in the several years prior and shortly thereafter, Jennifer was the most often given name. That was due to the movie Love Story. ( Her mother insisted on the name). So, I was just wondering, forgive me, if I'm prying, how it came to Mikayla? Please feel free to ignore me, inasmuch as I'm obviously treading on personal territory here. In any event, congrats. I hope the little girl is healthy and live a long and wonderful life.

No worries at all....well, I don't recall the first time I heard the name Mikayla but when I found out we were going to have a daughter, I started imagining how she might turn out. I had a lovely, intelligent young student this year (I'm a teacher) named Michaela that really impressed me on so many fronts. I liked her name and my wife and I started talking about names so I suggested it. When we looked at the meaning, this is what we found:
The girl's name Mikayla \m(i)-kay-la\ is a variant of Michaela (Hebrew), and the meaning of Mikayla is "who resembles God?". While we are not very religious, we felt this was a perfect compliment to her brother's name, Gabriel.

I also thought of my sister's name which is Mahala. So I don't really have any specific reasons but we wanted something unique, a name with meaning, and we both liked how the name rolls off the tongue.

One more BajaNomad, Congratulations ZAc & and family for the new family member.

bajafam - 6-12-2010 at 09:27 AM

Congratulations! Enjoy your new bundle of joy :)

Tiomiguel - 6-14-2010 at 11:26 AM

And here I thought that Tracy named her after Tio Miguel. Oh well, one could only hope. Jane has some comments about naming kids after students. In her case it normally meant that we could not use a name because she had a rotten student with that name.

Look forward to meeting Mikayla. Love little girls since we just have big boys.

Wonderful Zac!! Great news, lucky kid.

Congratulations to the family!

As a teacher, also, we do come across a lot of names...and you don't want to give them the name of that one jerk, who sat in the front row (or maybe you moved him to the back row)...even if the name sounds pretty cool! There is the advantage of hearing lots of names and going with the one that sounds good, and the kid made a positive impression, too.

I did something similar with my first born...always good to have the family (sister) tie in too...they like that...my sister is Leilani, so her niece has the middle name of Lei.
