Forgive my stupidity, what is the importance of the full moon? Is it for fishing?

Why the fishermen cannot catch fish when full moon?
Some fish as people use the lunar cycle to reproduce.
If you were in the act of reproduction, would you eat bait?
I didnt think so.

Well...lotsa reasons to know when the full moon is. But, if you are going to Gonzaga Bay one big one is that the range of tide at Alfonsina's is 22 feet!!.....that means that when you park yours rig in the nice flat parking lot in front of her motel y cantina when you to to bed you will wake to find that it has been under five feet of water most of the night. The high tides will be at about 0100 and 1300. Or....you might decide to launch your boat at 0600 and find that the water is about 50 yards farther out than you had thought it should be.

Or if you pull the boat up on the beach for a nice cerveza and a snooze you will awake to find the boat about half way to Topolobampo.

All of this will also happen at the dark of the moon which is on October 7.

The high tides happen about three days either side of the moon event.

I am an expert about this because I have been flying my airplane into Alfy's airstrip for 32 years and I have to know when I can get in and out. I keep one of the only airborn tide charts you ever heard of in my seat pocket.

:-)

If that were true...you'd catch more fish. Lots of fish bite when they get aggressive or territorial. A fish bothered in the act of reproduction by a lure will likely attack. Hence a hooked fish.

Couldn't agree more....the female of any species, and especially the human one, uses the utter idiocy of the amorous male to hook said male.

Males tend to think with their #@!$s most of the time. Females know this.

The best time to go camping is a full moon, unless you're planning on telescoping 2/3 of the way back to the big bang.

full moon

yakyak2010 - 7-1-2010 at 05:27 PM

I thought it might be a stupid question, I just didn't realize how stupid.

dizzyspots - 7-1-2010 at 06:27 PM

and the beach is beautiful under the full moon...and yes, the fishing was great as well

bonanza bucko - 7-1-2010 at 07:23 PM

If you wanna stay up and telescope....or just moonburn your tonsils....Gonzaga Bay is among the best places on earth to do it. God is up there when you look!....If you go to bed after that thinking you are big or important you need a brain...and heart...transplant.

New member here so your patience will be a must. Anyway, I have been visiting Baja, driving my buggy, for the last 4 years. I usually travel with a small group of two other buggys. Unfortunatly no one could get away for our last adventure so went solo. I went form Puerto Penasco to El Golfo and then entered Baja just south of Mexicali ending as far south as Bahia Las Angeles and back again. Great time but not so foolish to believe it was wise on my part so what I'm looking for is any other adventurous people who would like to travel Baja. I try to avoid pavement as much as possilbe (my buggy is a mid-engine with a cadillac northstar motor). I have taken both ferrys, Guaymas to Santa Rosalia and Topolobampo to La Paz and traveled north to San Luis. I try to go two to three times a year and don't really care what time of year it is. Anyway, any interested folks out there I'd love to hear back from. My e-mail adress is pmaciulla@aol.com

I have been told by local fisherman in BCS that fishing was worst when the moon was full. The explanation was that the fish can see their prey at night when the moon is full and don't need to feed as vigorously during the day. Probably an old esposa's tale.

Welcome to the screwball bunch
I would suggest you start your own thread as your post is kinda lost here
