Over the long Memorial Day weekend I was able to sneak away from my daily routine for a few days and enjoy my favorite place on the planet, Baja!
On the Sea of Cortez side of the Peninsula I watched an early evening full orange moon slowly rise over the glassy ocean, enjoyed shooting stars and
the Milky Way over a bonfire on the beach, watched whale sharks cruising just off shore, finback whales cruising the coast, pods of dolphins playing
together and watching frisky seals float on the surface while I snorkeled with more fish than I could count in crystal clear waters.
On the Pacific side I enjoyed walking on desolate beaches, surfing awesome waves until my arms gave out, watching the sun set over the ocean, and
eating and drinking with friends old and new. I watched pangas heading out for a new day of fishing and shrimp boats returning from several days at
sea. And so much more!
I can't imagine any other place on the planet where a person can enjoy so much natural beauty and have so much fun such a short distance from home.
Now I remember why I love Baja!

That sums it up nicely and really stokes the fire for my upcoming trip!

Well said, Carlos. One more week and I'll be saying the same!
Where'd you find all the whales, though?

Shrimp boats last week? I thought it was off-season. BUT NOT TO TAKE AWAY FROM YOUR SHORT AND SWEET TRIP REPORT MR. FIESTA! The natural beauty here
is trully amazing and diverse from side to side of the peninsula. I am so lucky to live here in BCS!!!
Carlos Fly-by...

Carlos did a fly-by at Juan y Juan's that weekend to get himself picked up at the local strip (special permission was granted). The Shrimp Boat he
mention could be the "Pesca" Trawler that comes in sometimes from it's lookout at Punta Domingo.

Capt'n Mike;
Yes my 'bird' made the coast to coast run fun, but I have made many of these trips to Baja over the decades by vehicle, and had just as much fun.
That's what is great about Baja...the two coasts are not that far away from each other and they are two very different experiences. BTW...the whale
sharks were just south of Puertecitos, the finback whales were in Punta San Francisquito, and the killer waves where right in front of Juan y Juan in
San Juanico!
