that is a lighter, for scale.

Range
Throughout the United States and probably into Canada. In the Southern states they may live outdoors all year long. To the North, they may leave homes
and hunt outdoors during the Summer and Fall.
Probably native to the Mediterranean region, this species has spread throughout much of Europe, Asia, and North America.
Habitat
Mostly encountered indoors in damp areas such as bathrooms, cellars, and crawl spaces. It will venture beyond these areas and is often seen quickly
scurrying across people's floors or climbing a wall.
Outdoors, they live under logs, rocks, and similar moist protected places.
Season
Indoors they are likely to be found at all times of the year provided they have warmth and available prey. To the North they will only be found
outside during Summer.
Food
Predatory on other arthropods, including c-ckroach nymphs, flies, moths, bedbugs, crickets, silverfish, earwigs, and small spiders. In short, they'll
eat many things you'd probably much rather not have in your home.
Life Cycle
A female may lay anywhere from 35 to over a hundred eggs, but does not guard or provide for them. Larvae hatch with four pairs of legs and get
increasingly more as they mature, up to 15 pairs at maturity.
Remarks
Consider these beneficial in your home, since they rid you of other pests.
You'd be lucky to get a good look at one of these since they run away very quickly when approached.
House centipedes are aggressive predators to things their own size but are not considered dangerous to humans. Their small jaws (actually modified
front legs) cannot easily pierce human skin. In the rare event you were bitten, pain and swelling may result, but it would probably be no worse than a
bee sting.
If you're plagued by these, you should endeavor to rid yourself of their prey and attempt to close up as many entry points into your house as
possible.

after college went to Brazil
upon returning, I lived in Pt Loma Ave, Del Mar Ave, Muir Ave (n now in Baja)

i been here since 65 when mom rolled into town with her ankle biter (me) in tow. nowadays it's changed into another mission/pacific beach in that the
modern world finally caught on to sleepy OB.
we just bought a house in paradise hills above national city with a view from the playas de tj to point loma, with the coronado islands right out
front.
i guess i'm gonna be "woody with a view" from now on.

next time down bring that bug here I will adopt it. we have a plague of earwigs. When it is finished here I am sure I can rent to someone in town too.
So if they live on those we have plenty for them.
Congrats on the new home. you will love being a home owner. Because you don't have to wait for the landlord to fix it. You get to do it yourself. Oh
and the best part he won't raise the rent because he had to fix it. You get to pay for it yourself.

woody with a view the fumigator said all the earwigs will be gone in Aug. But hey bring it on anyway and sure I will trade for cerveza. As long as the
bug you bring eat the bugs I have.
