la fonda saga update

pappy - 7-21-2004 at 10:12 AM

regardless of what may or may not have happened at la fonda, my friend's truck was "taken" from them.his dad is in mexacali with him dealing with the local police, who have the truck.when the police first contacted him they said everything was still in the truck.now that they are there to get it, they won't give it to him without a oicture id-fair enough.however, he asked if he could get inside the truck to get his id, because thta's where it was when ripped off.the police said no, and that there was not anything left in the truck-it was all gone.

any of you out there have any thoughts/ideas as what my friend and his son can do to solve the situation?(huge mrodida? another govt. agency to contact?) thanks for your help on this one.the kid is young, newly married and doesn't have a lot of $ or resources. if so he would just walk away from it all, so he is trying with all he has to get what is his back.thanks!

How long did they give him

to produce a picture ID? Get the pink slip, a new picture ID from the DMV, and go back there and very politely but firmly demand some results. Don't be afraid as you are in the right.
Depending on which insurance agency he used, they may be of some assistance in spite of the fact his policy was expired.
Is somebody making tuna around here?

I just caught a crow and am preparing it.

Insurance

A large portion of US insurance poicies will cover losses in Mexico even when Mexican insurance won't. Often they have restriction as to frequency of visits to Mexico and distance from the border. My old AAA policy was good within 75 miles of the border, which means at La Fonda he would be covered. My roommate had his car stolen in Ensenada and State Farm replaced his car.

Ahh, the famous crow meal

jrbaja - 7-21-2004 at 02:45 PM

Although I personally have never had the pleasure, I hear it can be quite tasty if prepared well.
I think with the correct salting and a little embellish relish, it could be a palatable mouthful to swallow.
Actually, this has been a fairly interesting thread. Whether it's crow to be eaten or the biproduct of the meal to be shoveled, veeeeeery interesting!hahahahahahahaa

Yeah, I called AAA and have verified that my vehicles are covered anywhere in Mexico, but not for liability. Most likely, his insurance company will cover a theft.

Anytime you recover a vehicle in Baja, expect not to find anything of value inside, the thieves take most things of value, and then the people that run the car pounds take their share.

Be glad you got it back in the first place.

I don't think they have it back yet. The Authorities are still checking for finger prints and waiting for DNA results.:lol::lol:
I bet we never hear the real story on this one!

happy to report they got their truck back, sans camper shell and all of their personal belongings and gear.the truck was in great shape(apparently the thieves were caught soon enough they didn't have time to do much more) those two, i am told are now in jail in Mexicali.
once son and dad get home hopefully we'll get the whole story.thnaks again for all of your input.:D

Good news indeed

jrbaja - 7-22-2004 at 11:21 AM

Too bad about the loss of the personal things . And glad the crooks were bad shots!

JESSE - 7-22-2004 at 11:33 AM

How come the thieves are in Mexicali? didn't the crime happen in La Fonda?

Cyndarouh - 7-22-2004 at 12:46 PM

They did or didn't get the surf boards and stuff back? I am confuesed a bit more than norm. Mexicali from La Fonda were the crooks heading to S.D.? Let us know if they were from Mex. or the US? Great news they got the truck back.

pappy - 7-24-2004 at 10:44 AM
