Massage at Baja Cactus -- good for what ails you!

zforbes - 6-27-2010 at 04:50 PM

Last Friday night when I pulled in to Baja Cactus, I was feeling the usual kinks of the day's drive from San Diego, so I was eager to take advantage of the new massage service offered there.

Roxana Flores, a fresh and clean young woman with good energy and strong hands, found all the right spots. I asked for the Swedish massage, but she also offers deep tissue work and sports massage. The price varies depending on the service. My hour long massage cost $35 US. Not only did it help with the traveling kinks, it also helped relieve the chronic back pain common to many older folks.

Roxana brought her massage table to my room, which was great because it allowed me to shower out the "spa hair," and roll right into bed afterwards. The table was a larger one, which I liked, because I always feel like I'm going to fall off the smaller ones. I'm 5'4" and I don't know how a larger person might feel on a table.

Next time I would heat the room in advance, and have a large towel or light blanket to cover myself, since Roxana brought only one fresh sheet to cover the massage table and a towel for the headrest. I used one of the hotel towels as a cover, but I felt chilly by the time the massage was finished.

I don't know massage customs in Baja, so I needed to ask about how much or little clothing was expected, but, just as in the states, she assured me that whatever I felt comfortable with was fine. I especially liked the fact that her massage oil was unscented, since some fragrances cause an allergic reaction. She also brought a variety of music and nature sounds to choose from as a relaxation aid.

Roxana trained in Cabo San Lucas, and is hoping to open a spa in El Rosario in the future. She calls her business Blessed Hands Massage, an apt name. If you like massage, I heartily recommend her services. If I could, I'd bring her back with me to Asuncion!

I just realized that I posted on the Political forum, apologies...this is about as far away as you can get from politics!

This is great news! I hope she is available next time I stay there. Getting the road out with a good massage is such a fine thing.

Woody, Roxana was in the reception area when I arrived, and I made arrangements at the time I checked in. It might have been more difficult if I had tried to do that in Spanish, but there was a bilingual person at the desk who reminded me of the service, and made the arrangements with Roxana.

I hadn't made a reservation at Baja Cactus this time, but next time I'll reserve her services online when I make a room reservation.

As far as I know, Antonio never developed his web site. It's just a single page that contains their telephone number. So, unless I missed something, there's no online reservations for Baja Cactus. Just por el telefono. Figure they can make the massage arrangements when you call.

That's not to far from Socorro. After fishing a few days, a drive for a massage, and dinner in El Rosario sounds great.

Is tha phone # land line, or cell? I'll either call her when down there, or just stop in and ask. For a real massage, I'll take the time to check this out.

Massage therapies...

BajaCactus - 6-28-2010 at 04:48 PM

Zforbes... Thank you so much for your nice words on our new massage services... indeed, Roxana, our masseuse, is very capable and professional.

Regarding the towels, I did notice they did not give you the complete set for the massage (I was there last Friday) and I have already corrected that small mistake from our staff... Sorry about that.

Anyone that wishes to pamper themselves with a massage therapy, you just need to talk to our staff at the front desk of the motel and they will take care of you... we have English spoken personal every afternoon after 4:00pm, except on Wednesdays. You can also reserve by e-mail if you wish to.

For now, we have our massage therapies on promotional rates (as our rooms), starting at only $300 pesos... At the moment I am working on some extra details to have these services ready and to fully promote them.

We can offer massage therapies throughout the day... being the last session at 10:00pm.

Massages can also be complemented with heat vacuum suction cups, hot stone therapies, reflexology, etc... all these and some more will be fully explained in a menu we are about to finish, they will be put inside the rooms when they are done.

Regarding the Spa Roxana talked about, she probably meant the we are already working in an area within BajaCactus to install a very small spa for our guests.

Is worth mentioning that besides massage therapies, we are also offering pedicures, manicures and facials... these are given by Silvia... a very young and professional lady as well.

Bajahowodd... what Zforbes probably meant by "online" was that we can take reservations by e-mail at motel*at*bajacactus.com... and online payments via PayPal or Google Checkout... and of course you can reserve/pay for a massage therapy at the same time you reserve a room.

TonyC... just call or e-mail us and we will take care of you my friend... local phone number: (616) 165-8850, from the US you can dial a US phone line: (619) 694-1082.

Zforbes... again, thank you very much for your nice and wonderful comments... I will pass them on to Roxana.

That's wonderful Antonio... "Baja Cactus Spa and Resort!"

zforbes - 6-28-2010 at 08:14 PM

Antonio, I probably misunderstood Roxana about the spa, since my Spanish is still developing.

I forgot to mention that Roxana spent a lot of time on my feet and hands, which I understand are the central points in Reflexology. Some people point to a lack of controlled clinical studies regarding the effectiveness of this modality, but I find it very relaxing, and regularly use some of the techniques on myself to relieve certain kinds of discomfort. In any event, it was a plus and not a minus in the massage, since hands and feet in particular are likely to become stressed at holding the same position for hours at a time while driving.

Excellent! I was already looking forward to our stay at Baja Cactus in July....now I can get a pedicure or a massage as well as an awesome room! I will be happily spoiled :)
