What are the rates? I've sent an email but no answer all day.
Do they have a phone?

check G.D.B "Massage at Baja Cactus -- good for what ails you!

BAJA.DESERT.RAT - 7-2-2010 at 10:45 PM

Hola gerald and welcome to the board. baja cactus is the number one rated hotel in el rosario and you do want to book one of the newer rooms. i stayed in one of the older rooms a few years back and they are just adequate.

they also have secured parking and i believe are pet friendly as i did see another person there with a small dog. mama espinosa's restaurant is within walking distance, about 100 yards south, as well as most of the small commercial part of town.

it is one door south of the pemex station and there is a large gate to pass through.

The rates are rediculously low for such a high class roadside inn... $35 or less... King beds, custom mattresses, 24 hour desk clerk, in roomcoffee maker, pressurized deluxe showers, English/Spanish satellite TV with remote, bottled water (free), and the latest is a massage service (see post recently made by zforbes).

Owned by Baja Nomad member 'BajaCactus' Antonio Muņoz, who has recieved awards from the State of Baja California Dept. of Tourism as well as private travel organizations such as Vagabundos del Mar...

Email motel*at*bajacactus.com or just call the number on their website http://bajacactus.com

I posted the link to his site... but it only has the contact onfo... many potos posted here over the past 6 years since Antionio remodeled the place.

There are several security web cams at the motel and gas station monitored from the tele-communications room behind the office and from their 'corporate headquarters' in Tijuana where Antonio's family lives (most of the time).

I suggest you read posts by BajaCactus and get a feel for the high caliber person he is!

Have a grand time!

This man and his business in my opinion deserves all the promotion and customers he can get. BTW along Mex 1, I have formed an opinion that this is the "coolest" area of both Baja's. Really nice hideout when coming northbound from summer heat and humidity.

mulegejim - 7-3-2010 at 07:05 AM

Have stayed there many times - great rooms with reasonable prices. They are pet friendly as we have had our dog with us several times - they request that the pets do not sleep on the beds, which makes sense, so we bring a sleeping pad for the dog. As I remember free WiFi also. Reserve one of the newer rooms in the rear as the ones close to the highway can get a little noisy. Jim

shari - 7-3-2010 at 07:12 AM

A great big baja welcome to you Gerald to "Nomadlandia"...it would be nice to know a bit about you...many new members tell us a bit about themselves so we can get to know each other better.

At first I thought this question was a joke....because nearly everyone here knows how awesome Baja Cactus is!!!! It is our absolute favorite hotel in that area...actually...anywhere as you get a fabulous room for an affordable(for us) price...dont forget to ask for the Bajanomad discount!!! and get a massage from their wonderful massuese there.

Alan - 7-3-2010 at 07:35 AM

... and El Rosario is the perfect point to top up your fuel tanks if you are continuing south.

Its kinda like those commercials "Fuel... don't leave El Rosario without it".

Bajahowodd - 7-3-2010 at 04:38 PM

Apologies to Antonio, as he is a really upstanding guy. But while I've stayed at Baja Cactus a number of times, and while no one can argue that the fit and finish and the furnishings are topnotch, I'm just not a big fan of the town. That, plus, being located at the bottom of a long grade, and adjacent to his Pemex station, I've always found the place to be a bit noisy. Frene con motor is the town slogan! No argument that folks who choose to stay there find great value. Just not my cup.

And, all that said, before DK tries to lure the unsuspecting, absolutely, and unquestionably, if you are staying in El Rosario for the night, Baja Cactus is the only place to consider. DK, being an El Rosario savant, has often extolled the virtues of several other places there. My recommendation is that when traveling S/B, if you plan to stay in El Rosario, make a reservation at Baja Cactus. if you are headed N/B, and Baja Cactus is full, just remember that San Quintin is merely 1/2 hour away, and has myriad accommodations far superior to all the other( Exception: Baja Cactus) places in El Rosario.

BAJA.DESERT.RAT - 7-3-2010 at 08:15 PM

Hola, with all due respect, it may be noisy to some with the frene de motor but to me, i'm just usually too tired to hear it and just enjoy the great accomodations.

PLEASE....always support the baja cactus as he always takes care of the nomads and vagabundos going through either north or south and has the best accomodations !!!! bar none !!!!!

If you decide to stop in El Rosario, it is without a doubt the best deal in town.

Just imagine yourself crossing a long, arduous desert, with danger all around, and your only thought is to finally arrive at the long sought oasis in the midst of your horrible journey.

That is how I perceive the Baja Cactus Motel.

Forget Bajahowadd and his whining about the sound of the jake brakes throughout the night.....believe me, when you finally land in Antonio's little piece of heaven out there in the middle of nowhere, you will thank goodness you finally landed before dark, and you will have such a fine, inexpensive haven to tuck into, and sleep well. You'll be exhausted. The jake breaks and highway noise won't bother you at all!!

Antonio and Baja Cactus (and his gracious Daddy) get a five star rating from me.

shari - 7-4-2010 at 08:18 AM

no hotel in El Rosario or Catavina can escape the traffic noise as they are ALL right on the highway...ni modo...kinda comes with the territory of highway side motels eh.

BooJumMan - 7-8-2010 at 09:38 AM

For whatever reason, El Rosario is one of my favorite stops. Mama Espinosa's and Baja Cactus are a great combination for me. ;)

BajaBruno - 7-8-2010 at 10:08 AM

I'm a very light sleeper, but the noise here never seems to be an issue. Maybe because we have always gotten the second floor room in the back.

As for the WiFi, it has never worked in our several stays here, but they always say it will next time!

Worth the stop, in our opinion.

irenemm - 7-8-2010 at 12:53 PM

If the noise is an issue go a few more miles north to the Posada Don Diego
we are off the Hwy and most of time pretty quiet.
Not to many rooms but quiet.
stop and check us out next time.

Ouch, that's gotta hurt. But Gerald DID say that "all comments and opinions were welcomed." Besides, you can't really fault someone for trying to drum up a little business for themselves, can you? And perhaps Gerald would be bothered by the noise at BajaCactus (although I've never been).
No need to get so nasty, Kat. I have really enjoyed your posts on the turtle bust thread. This seems a little out of character for you. Must be something personal.

This is about offering a different service to someone. I don't know what you have against me I am most always polite and friendly to all.
If I am not welcome on this site perhaps the majority will tell me. I am sorry you think this is all about me but it is not about your either. This forum is for all.
I have see your posts and most of the you seem very angry about something.
I wish you a better day then you are having today. I hope tomorrow is better for you.

What a f'ing nimrod.

Hey Irene? I, for one, appreciate having an option in Rosarito. Cactus often fills up and if you don't have a reservation, or get in early, the place has no vacancy. It's helpful to know there are other quality places in this town and a Nomad recommends it.

Thank you for posting your information -- it pays to market yourself.

Oh, and let me add that I have been bothered by the number of 18 wheeler's who park next door at the Pemex and leave their motors running. The grade the Cactus is on has a constant parade of trucks using jake brakes, or not using them, and it's LOUD! I usually take a pill, or drink tequila, and sleep with a pillow over my head.

irenemm - 7-9-2010 at 11:33 AM

Lee
Thank you but we are not in El Rosario
We are north back up in Vicente Guerrero. We are on hour from Baja Cactus
We are off the Hwy about a half mile.
I just put this out if someone did not want to stay there. I am sure it is a very fine place. I have only heard good things about it and just wanted to give someone and another choice.
Thanks again Lee
Hope you stop by and see us sometime
Irene

Thank you!!!

BajaCactus - 7-10-2010 at 12:22 AM

Wow...!!!

Thank you so much for all the great and wonderful comments you have said about our Motel... they are uplifting and surely inspire us to keep doing our best effort to better ourselves... I will make sure everyone in our staff knows all their hard work is truly appreciated by all of you guys.

BajaBruno... indeed we had a few glitches a while back with our internet connection... however we made some modifications and we have had no problems for over a year now. We have an ethernet connection in the rooms, which you can use to connect to our hotspot directly, via a LAN cable (if you forget yours, we have some at the front desk for lending)... and we also have a WiFi signal that covers the outside of the motel, the SSID is "BajaCactus HotSpot" and you may ask for the password at the front desk.

Regarding the noise... well... there is not much we can do until our Convenience Store is build... this unit was designed at the front of the motel, between the motel and the highway, to try and attenuate the noise of the traffic passing by... but until then I do not know how to resolve this small problem... my apologies to anyone who has not had a restful stay at BajaCactus.

Again, thank you all so much for your nice and beautiful words... I hope to have the opportunity to meet you all in the future to personally thank you.

Your friend,

Antonio Munoz

Antonio, we love the BajaCactus!! We have never been disappointed and always have a restful night's sleep. We look forward to our stay on July 19th. Do you suggest we make reservations? We have yet to do that, and always just hope for the best...thus far, we've done pretty good. Though, we kind of fell in love with one room in particular ~ our daughter loved having her own "room" in the loft and the locking gate at the stairs was a life saver ~ pure genius!! Okay, now I'm going to have to make reservations! I've given away our secret!! Pencil us in Antonio! :) We'll be there soon!

Antonio, We stayed at the Baja Cactus last night, very good quality hotel and we slept like babies.

eetdrt88 - 7-10-2010 at 11:01 PM

without a doubt, one of the nicest places ive stayed in baja...i usually camp at the beach,,,but when youre on the road it sure is nice to pull off and stay a nite at cactus:coolup:

Bajahowodd - 7-11-2010 at 04:42 PM

Get going, Antonio. Just sort of kidding. But, if you can help shield the traffic noise with another profit making venture, more power to you. I just hope that for you and so many other upstanding business owners in Baja that tourism will again flourish.
