Pulling a boat. Where to stay in Ensenada?

TonyC - 7-2-2010 at 07:53 PM

The subject pretty much covers it. A few things I'm looking for:

---don't want to totally unload everything, and if I have too...need a room on the first floor. May be traveling alone.

My truck is open bed. Bringing into the room my poles, reels, and electronics.

That's pretty much what I'm looking for. I do tip, and will do so for great security.

La Quinta next to the Joker. I have stayed there everytime I go through ensenada. I always have a trailer of some sort loaded. ATV's Boats...ect. It is a enclosed area with lots of parking. I usually unhitch my boat and put it in the stall next to the truck. they also have a large enclosed parking area in back.
There is no way in, except past the office and they close the gate at night. It costs about 45/night.

thats a very secure place but

not a very nice area and
NOT for a boat and trailer

really small small parking lot

can you get farther south?

Sallysouth - 7-2-2010 at 08:08 PM

Estero Beach, 6 mi past Ensenada.24 hr security and rooms are going pretty cheap,I think.Lots of parking.

fishabductor - 7-2-2010 at 08:11 PM

I guess it depends on the size of the boat. My trailer measures 20'. i've have no issues, especially if you park in the back.

You are right about it not being a nice area. WE usually order in our dinner. we just sleep there then scram first thing in the morning

I'd go for the San Nicolas - great, fenced parking lot with 24 hour security and plenty of room to maneuver the trailer. Oh yeah, the rooms are really nice and weekday prices are excellent

We always stay at the Bahia... cheap rooms and nice. Large fenced in parking lot with security. On my main strip on the left side, corner lot.

Hardly what I would call "fenced in," my little fortune cookie. More like a corral and vulnerable to street-roaming trash.
The Bahia gives no assurances or guarantees. Park at your own risk....and that covers a lot of territory.

Okay I will rephrase the answer... we have never ever had any problem with this hotel and the parking lot. We have left stuff in the bed of the truck with nothing missing. We have always tipped the security people which I dont know if this helped or not. When we go this is where we stay with no problems.

Been there..done that. Many times. This is the place you are looking for.

Quintas Papagayos Hotel on the main highway just minutes north of downtown Ensendada. 'The easy place to find.'

I just posted this yesterday about the place.

Perfect place for them Pomp. I had a huge wedding there in '07. Nice, clean, good security. Take normal precautions, but your boat should be as safe as possible! Right next door to the ramp at Marina Coral also.

The Mission in Ensenada also has 24 hour manned security and a very large secure parking lot.

Is that the Mision Santa Isabel Hotel?

I used this regularly when towing a 19 foot boat down in the 90s. It cant have changed much. The hotel also has charm and I like the location; near the El Rey Sol!

I just thought I'd show you how close you will be to your boat and pickup at Papagayos.

I like to work on my rig where I stay..and not have to walk too far. ;)

Your call, though...all the above suggestions are good. Buena suerte...Good luck.

I would second the San Nicolas. Fenced, well- lit parking with a 24 hour guard. And, there's a Caliente Casino on the property.

Park near the police station, they will try and confiscate it anyway, save them a drive. We were driving north south of San Quintin following a couple of fed police cars. A nice newer Ford dually was traveling south towing a nice 26' or so sport fishing boat. We figured in our heads about $ 100-120k traveling down the road. Both cop cars made an immediate u-turn to follow. I felt bad for the boat owner.

Alan - 7-3-2010 at 08:13 PM

I've towed my boat down numerous times but personally I never stop before San Q. and perefer El Rosario. Are you fishing Ensenada or points south?

osoflojo - 7-4-2010 at 03:26 PM

Cant beat Estero Beach for safety, security and price.

TonyC - 7-4-2010 at 09:21 PM

Thank you for the great suggestions. Pompano, that pic. speaks for itself.

I'm heading to Socorro, but I have 16 days. If the bites not happening,I have no problem heading south, Bahia L.A., or as far as a one day ride from Socorro will take me.

I'm coming from the Bay Area (S.F.)... kinda why I may do a stop in Ensenada. Travel fresh the next morning, and maybe fish the late afternoon.

It's been almost four months since I've been down, and dinner in Ensenada seems a good way to start my vacation. Just want to make sure my boat's safe.

Yes, that's the one... I also really like their breakfasts there~

bajamigo - 7-5-2010 at 09:03 AM

We spent a night at the San Nicolas last week. Older but well-maintained facilties, extremely secure parking, and walkable to the tourist area.
