Leaving Dirt bike in La Paz

I will be driving down to La Paz in October on a 6 month Tourist Card. I will be towing a utility trailer containing a dirt bike. Can I leave the trailer and dirt bike in La Paz when I return north in early December ?? I will return to Baja in February - what happens if I get another Toursit Card at that time ? Can the trailer and bike remain in La Paz indefinity, and if not, how difficult would it be to register them in Mexico ???

Assuming you have a place to leave or store it you won't have any problems. I wouldn't bother to register them in Mexico. Getting another tourist card is not a problem, it merely grants you permission to be in Mexico for another 6 mos.

Hello Peter...

I received your e-mail asking for help on this matter, but just in case you did not get it... here is the same info I sent you:


Because I was not well informed in this matter, today I went to the mexican custom office at the international border here in Tijuana, and after talking to the officers, here is what I found out for
you.

1.- When coming down to Mexico, you will need a proper permit for yourself to
cross and stay in mexican territory, being that an FM3 permit or whatever the
custom office tell you is appropiate for your particular stay in Mexico.

2.- All Baja (norht and south), is what the custom office call "Zona Libre"
(Free zone), this means that while in Mexico, with a valid permit for
yourself, you are allowed to have any motor vehicles without any additional
permits, as long as this vehicles are register under your name in the US (you will have to bring this registration along with your vehicles when coming down, in order to prove they are yours, and that it is you, the same person, who has a valid permit to stay in Mexico).

3.- If you find a place to store your bikes in La Paz, they can remain there,
in storage, all the time you want... just be sure no one uses them when you
are not there, because if somebody does, and he gets detained by any
authority, they will ask for the propietor of the bikes, and if the driver is
not that person, they will confiscate them.

4.- You may come and go as many times as you want, and as long as you keep
your permits valid, you are entitle to have any bikes without any additional
paperwork.

5.- If you are going with your vehicles some place other than Baja, then you
do need to make some extra tramits and payments.

Well, this is what they just told me at the mexican customs office, I hope this info helps you out.

And as far as compensation, there is no need for it, we at BajaCactus ar just
glad to help out in any way we can.

Peter, if you are able to make it to los barriles you are welcome to store your bike on one of my lots, i have a 7ft wall all around the lot with alot of my junk already stored there.

I want to echo David K., you are truly a friend to all on this board and I suspect most of the people you know are aware of the kind of person you are. You spend a lot of time helping others and I believe it is appreciated by all. Even those who never post.

My wife and I will be in to see you one of these days. Right now we have duties that prevent us from traveling together but that will change eventually.

Spending a few time helping people is not a big deal.... in fact, once you do it once or twice, you begin to enjoy it... a lot.....it is a nice way to spend your free time....:D

I would also like to meet both yourself and your wife Juan.... I recently met Doug, DavidK, Bernie, Jesse and Jr, and it was one of the best experiences I have had... I am looking forward to meet more BajaNomads friends....
