need directions to border crossing

fandango - 7-5-2010 at 04:47 PM

i haven't taken the regular lanes northbound at san ysidro in some time and i have some questions.

as you come along the border fence road, do you turn right at the fire station and then left at the next signal? does that left turn at the signal take you to the ramp that swings up right?

is the way clearly marked with signs?

there is an entrance to the regular lanes at the end of padre kino. this ramp puts you in the regular lanes that go behind the shops. is this entry point ever closed because of too many cars?

i will be towing and would like to be sure i know where i'm going.
thanks.

it is pretty clear when you get there.

Go North. Don't stop till you get there.

Kinda like Woody said.

OK...No more jokes. Sorry.

You can do the fence road and turn right at the Bomberos, then left at the corner which is Segundo and that will put you in line for the road to the border. If you don't turn right at that corner, you'll end up on the same road anyway.

You can avoid the fence road if you're coming north on the toll road and continue on, straight up the hill, rather than doing the right hand loop which puts you on the hill over the top to the fence road.
Go straight, as I mentioned, and you'll be on Second Avenue through downtown Tijuana.
That puts you right where you are familar with, by the Bomberos, on Segundo.

Don't try any of this at high traffic hours or we may never see another of your posts again.

if you pass the turn for the fire dept. you are on via rapido and you can't get in the line for the border there any longer. well, not immediately up the ramp like we used to do.

i didn't know about segundo all the way thru town. hope to never have to use it, but will keep it in mind. thanks.

anyone ever take the regular lanes behind the shops? would like to know about that.

That's news to me. It's been a good while since I went up that way. Thanks.

The turn isn't for the fire dept. The street is Melchor Ocampo and is the last street-one block west of the stop light for the via rapida. It is clearly marked above the traffic lanes. Turn right, one block then left on Benito Juarez/Segunda.

I meant, by the fire department. I think they're close to each other.

Just came back across yesterday. Horrible day to cross. Got re-routed 2 times, and barely got back into the border lane on the 3rd try.

Going along the fence road, stay in the right lane. There will be a right turn, its marked San Diego, but is partially (mostly) blocked by a tree. (Its the right turn right after the one to go to Revolution.) Then get into the far left lane, and make your first left. Then get in either the furthest left lane, or 2nd from left and make your way up into the border!

dave, dennis, boojumman:
thanks for the directions.

That's the one for the fire station. It's after that. Just before you get to the stop light.

Oops, my bad...Dave is right!
