I recently changed planes in Portland and they had classical mini-concerts all throughout the terminal and even a big band singer belting out Sinatra next to a player piano. I always enjoy the street musicians in the subway tunnel echo-chambers too. There is something about how music calms us in stark contrast to the hustle and bustle of a busy transit terminal that makes it so welcome and refreshing. Good for TJ- ambush opera!

Expressions on the patrons faces made my morning.

The talented soprano, Carla Acosta Villavicencio, has returned from her intensive training at the Puccini School of Opera in Italy and is planning on playing the starring role in an opera to be performed in La Paz this winter.

Full cast, costumes, music along with passion, romance, greed, intrigue and suspense. Everything you need to have a great time at the opera.

Tied to a wonderful dinner and a couple of glasses of vino it will be a night to remember. Watch here for more details as they become available.

You, Jesse, will be hearing more about this as the Italians begin to compete for tickets which will be rare.

Ciao.

Didn't she just...

It was a four month intensive course at 8-10 hours a day with public performances at the end in front of the most discerning critics in the world - the Italian public. Takes a lot more energy and skill than most people can muster to practice with the best in the world.

Living in Italy is very expensive as a student and she eked out as much training as she could in the time allotted by the Italian visa.

Carla is already a graduate of the Mexican fine arts university, Casa las Rosas in Morelia, which is why she was accepted as the first Mexican to attend the Puccini school. Carla is someone for all Mexico and opera lovers especially to treasure. Go see her for yourself in La Paz and you then you can judge for yourself how quick a study she is. I bet you will be amazed to say the least.

Peace.

P.S. the TJ bus performance was very cool and more spontaneous displays of talent and public awareness is nice break from narcos and turtle-soup. Opera, ahhhhhh.

Thank you, Jesse

That was wonderful.

It's amazing how some people can look so clueless in the middle of something that magical.

I can't see you tube at work, I recently saw a poster on the Corner of Sanchez Taboada & Cuauhtemoc for Opera en la calle. I wonder if it is related.
