I am planning a trip from Oceanside to Bahia Ascuncion. One of the issues pending is the tourist visa card. Where do I apply for one? I am taking a bus from the Central Bus Station in Tijuana and wish to travel from Tijuana to Vizcano and arrive on Saturday am. Does anyone know where I can look at a bush schedule? Or does anyone know the departure time on Friday evening to arrive on Sat. am.
Your site is very informative and I hope to contribute as much as possible after my trips. Juan

When you cross the border at San Ysidro you will see the office to obtain your FMM

Hola Juan y bienvenido! How are you crossing the border? I would arrive at the Central Bus station around 7:00 and just hang there till your bus leaves...I think there is one at around 8 but its best to take the later one at 10...but ya never know if they are running on time and the schedule changes sometimes so i always get there early and bring a book...there are places to eat there too...pretty interesting place...see ya soon.

bluesnart, Let a newbie welcome another newbie! I am from Oceanside too!!! Good luck on your adventure. If you drive across, go to the right lane, once you are in the carport, park and go into the little offices on your right, you will see. If you walk across the little bank of offices will be on your left side.

bluesnart, Welcome! I met bluesnart on SC Surf fishing forum http://www.scsurffishing.com/forums/index.php?sid=b57c69b83f... and we talked about him hooking up with Shari for a few days to fish. If there is anyone out there with the idea of going to Asuncion you might want to hook up with Juan and share expenses. I know there must be a few people that would like to get away for awhile?

When you walk across the border, there are some turnstiles, and some small offices on the left side. Look for the one that says "migra" or look for some offical looking guys in uniform hanging around. There might be 3 bus lines (ABC, Tres Estrellas, and ?) that will be departing down the peninsula - so you might have plenty of choices for your departure time and not much waiting.

Follow up questions regarding getting the tourist visa.

Is there room enough for an SUV with a trailer to park?

Do all the people need to get out of the car to get the visa?

Gracias!

Hey blane... I can answer a little bit for you but I know there are others that know the exact answer. If your talking San Y. border, I think only the people in the car that need a visa would get out. I did this 2 years ago, I drove in the carpat area, parked, got out, got the passport stamped, drove out, which they wave you through here and I drove off. It is very lax, its nothing like our side. As for parking, dont worry about it... take up 5 spots long... they understand.

I know the Mexico side have started getting hard nosed with people and what they bring over. They have said to people that I know... your clothes size and gender need to match who is in the car, or you pay a fee and then I have heard they will send you over to Otay. I dont want to scare you because this has NEVER happened to me and I have brought large black trash bags full of clothes for the kids in the areas.

good luck

maybe you guys haven't walked across in a while...

right at the turnstiles it IMN office is on the RIGHT

right there

there is another office further up on the left but its not the primary office

Thank you all so much for the info. It will come in handy when I get to the border. I visit Mexico's interior quite often but have not traveled in Baja for some time. Things have changed. I will be taking my own CANIA (fishing pole) and have been advised to travel with it in a pvc type tube. Does anyone have any comments on that? Any length restrictions? Mil Gracias Juan
