Retired now and finally got to spend a month in La Paz before family committments forced me back home. It took no time at all to get "La Pazed" and enjoy my siestas during the heat of the day. Fishing was more of a feast or famine thing. Not that you weren't catching fish which everyone did, it was more the luck of the draw whether you were pulliing on barrilette or yellowfin tuna. :lol:

Palermos on the malecon has a pretty decent Sunday brunch for 190 pesos with choice of beef, turkey and lamb to accompany your mimosas.

Found a great little place for burgers on Madero called Buffalitos that opened about 7 mos. ago and a nice little place for fish tacos on the right side headed out towards Walmart

my buddy is taking his 13 y.o boy next friday. anyone else have any recommendations for must see/eat/do's?

they have accomadations and charters lined up but will need some distractions.....

13 yo would probably like the Serpenteria.

Have to have arrachera tacos at Rancho Viejo which is a block up Marque de Leon from Papas and Beer. Dad would like the 10 peso draft beer with free appetizers at Papas and Beer beach club starting each nite at 6.

Banditos' Chevy truck BBQ is always popular.

Great tacos-- al pastor, carne asada or chorizo at Tacos El Poblano across from the former CCC on Abasolo!

Tortillas are made right there-- friendly people running the place, lots of veggies on the counter to keep it healthy, just 15 pesos a taco. I'm trying to recruit them to move to Loreto!

Edit: open around 6pm, not a daytime place.

Dittos on the Serpentario. Its totally cool.

Why not the two of you take a Introduction to Scuba Dive day? If you like it you can probably apply it towards the certification course which will let you dive anywhere the world over.

the guy who started the serpenteria stayed with us !! he said it was not popular in the beginning but is really popular now !!!

not sure how into this the 13 yr old might be, but once we went to the museum of natural history and it was amazing .... unfortunately, it is all in spanish - at least it was - I offerred to translate but never heard back .... you can tell them the offer still stands !!

if you go further south - go to SANTIAGO village. follow signs to SOL DE MAYO. pay 75 pesos and take a 10 min hike down to a waterfall and natural pool .... take a picnic - spend the day....

Thank you Bill and Chris. Just been loving life right now. Retirement has been even better than I could have hoped for and even as much as I loved my job, I haven't missed it for a single moment.

Woody - There is just so much to see and do in La Paz it's hard to know where to start. Kayaking and snorkeling at Espiritu Santos. (Isla Ballena even has some shallow caves to snorkel in). The beach at Balandra. The water park at Coromel. Catching (and releasing) a marlin with Fishermen's Fleet or Tailhunters. Friday and Saturday nights on the malecon (there is almost always some event going on there. About 2 weeks ago there was a vintage VW show.

Everywhere you turn there is an interesting restaurant to try. Jesse' Tres Virginnes still tops my list of favorites as well as my kids but they are a bit older than 13.

Not sure of their time or budget constraints but I know dad and son would love http://www.loscabosguide.com/wideopen.htm

Introduced my son in law and grandchildren to snorkeling while they were here for the first time and they were hooked for life about ten seconds after hitting the water. Also took them beach camping at Tecolote and a friend kindly offered his boat for a day trip, picnicking and more snorkeling at a deserted beach near Balandra. By the time they returned to the 'States I think they finally understood why their mother and I chose to make our home here.

There's a relatively new taco place on the south side of Marquez de Leon at Independencia that's pretty good and always jammed with people because it is pretty good. Don't like the backless stools, and their tortillas don't hold together well, but other than that their operation is a quantum leap above the usual taco stand. The camarones y queso tacos are a tasty if ill-advised treat.

La Pazzzz... ahhhh!

so my buddy gets to TJ airport this morning 1.5 hours early for his flight. the guy at the mexicana counter tells him his flight is canceled, as in no more direct flights to la paz....... but, he's in luck!!! :lol:

there is a different flight leaving in 20 minutes...... to mexico city with ONLY a 4 hour layover :bounce:

...... instead of fish tacos for lunch he's going to be lucky to see the sun set tonight! vacation minus 1 day!

moral of the story: confirm your reservation!!!!

The Mexico City airport is so much fun! Don't know if they've changed it since I was last there three years ago, but get this: Smoking is only allowed in the restaurants. Goes great with your grub!

in the late 80'-early 90's we'd have to overnight in the airport with all our gear waiting for the 10am connection to pto. escondido, oax.... great fun sleeping against your surfboards, on the floor.....

7 dorado with 4-5 farmed.
2 grouper ("calico looking things!")

junior is having a blast so far. another BAJA ADDICTION forming.....

P.S. nextel works great from la paz to sandy eggo.
