Time for your summer vacation!:tumble: The Pacific side is still cool. Humidity means your energy level is very low and you start sweating for no reason, verdad!!:( No bugs yet?? One positive. Hang tough!

vandenberg - 7-22-2010 at 06:39 AM

In Nopolo this morning at 6.15

82.4 and 65% humidity.
I believe the confinement of the Bay makes your humidity so high.
In a few weeks the nighttime temperatures won't go below 88 degrees. Yiiicks!!

DENNIS - 7-22-2010 at 06:48 AM

It has been cold and damp here seems like forever. We're at 500 feet and living in the damp clouds. I've never seen anything like it.
Sorry.

Marc - 7-22-2010 at 06:50 AM

Well it's 55, foggy and windy here near the beach in San Francisco. So unpleasant I bagged my run in Golden Gate Park yesterday. Can't wait 'til September and Mulege!

wessongroup - 7-22-2010 at 06:57 AM

I had 83º and 94% hum. this morning early. Now 86º & 85%

Bob y Susan..I feel your pain.

Pompano - 7-22-2010 at 07:24 AM

I spent way too many summers in The Bay..never got used to that heat and humidity. My worst day was in August, 1988 when I took a pic of my garage thermometer..118F in the shade and almost 100% humidity. Never again...

I don't like sauna's that much!

We went searching more moderate temps.

From Coos Bay, Oregon on the Cool Coast..ah, refreshing coolness...almost cold, in fact. We have to eat really hot food to stay warm.

BUT, it's a trifle windy!

.
The good news is...everyone's catching fish!

wessongroup - 7-22-2010 at 07:29 AM

wow, getting close to dew point.. now wouldn't that be something..

Yes, I did. But it is already under construction for my new business venture...a nuclear waste recycling plant. My

bajafam - 7-22-2010 at 10:06 AM

We are in Asuncion right now and it is be-au-ti-ful!!! Cool mornings, breezy and perfect afternoons and evenings that warrant a sweatshirt! Now, that's my kind of summer!

I go scuba diving most every day. The surface water is warm, but down just 15-20 feet is coolness, great relief from the heat. At that depth a single tank of air lasts for a few hours below the waves and I emerge refreshed.

Octopus, seahorses, millions of baby wrasse, huge Cortez Angels, thousands of baby Baracuda to play with or just sit quietly on the sandy ocean floor and rest.

We're doing another campout on the beach tonight down in the Bay. Sleep on the sand, watch for falling stars. Will kayak to the islands at dawn tomorrow morning.

Mexitron - 7-22-2010 at 10:33 AM

Whiners! its been over 90 since may15th in Fort Worth, high humidity and no ocean, and get this, fort Worth closed most of their public pools due to budget cuts---wacked!

Pompano--I lived in Bandon a few years back...sounds really nice right now!

I like your style !!! You know how to live. That's for sure.

The comfort of the pacific is exaggerated a bit though. Nobody brings up the every day wind over there. Last month my son got bronchitis at Guerrero Negro as we drove from the Cortez to town. We went through a 40 degree weather change followed by 25 knot winds at Laguna Manuela, all in a few hours. The landlady at the hotel was always walking around with the shawl over her mouth for protection. Although they say GR is the windiest place in baja.

That Davis unit even gives advice.... it is some kind of electronics.. and it appears to hold up quite well in the "field"..

Thanks for sharing... up north here ... we are "freezing" again today... around hight 70's... I think.. with a breeze.. I have on a thermal tee shirt... with socks, and levi's

You guys are tuff, if your doing this without "air".. really hard core... or .... well, just can't think of anything..... it's getting to hot, just looking at that heat index...

Speaking of air.. does CFE have enough supply for all... just wondering.. have no knowledge about the distribution of electrical power in Mexico and/or Baja

One question, how long does one stay wet, after getting out of the water... ??

[Edited on 7-25-2010 by wessongroup]

BajaBruno - 7-25-2010 at 03:31 PM

Jeez, I thought this thread was about the Tecate Girls. Roger and Bob got close, though.

Russ - 7-25-2010 at 04:22 PM

"Speaking of air.. does CFE have enough supply for all..."
Everyone in Punta Chavato is on solar and a few who don't care about their neighbors run noisy generators (my pet peeve). Some use the quiet Hondas for their AC but all my neighbors are gone during the summer so I only have to listen to one generator when the rich guy comes down for a few days at a time.
"That Davis unit even gives advice.... it is some kind of electronics.. and it appears to hold up quite well in the "field".."
They're made and price to hold up. But they do have their down times but repair parts are available and easy to install. WeatherShack has a help line on the products they sell and get back to you faster than Davis.
High winds today to 28mph.

i just spent 60 hours in mulege.
you guys are nutz.
certifiable....
phx is WAY cooler...

wessongroup - 7-25-2010 at 04:38 PM

Thanks Russ... do you haul your own water or do they deliver?

On the solar, their systems are large enough to run air and refer?

Sorry grammar.. should have been

"One question, how long does one stay wet, after getting out of the water... ??"

Used to live where it was quite hot in the summer, well over 110º and had a pool (or a collection point for all the dust and bugs) but, after being in the water.. you would be dry in 3-5 minutes..

[Edited on 7-25-2010 by wessongroup]

Russ - 7-25-2010 at 05:05 PM

There is a private water company that has a well about 6 miles away and he pumps water to about 3/4 of the Chivato area. the rest have it trucked in.
Most of the solar systems could handle a frig or 2 but no one has a big enough system, here, to handle an AC.
Dry is a relative term here. If the north wind is blowing off the desert (seldom) you'll dry off very fast otherwise you don't

Bob and Susan - 7-25-2010 at 06:09 PM

we have 4 chiller units used here in the bay for AC
in 4 homes

they run off solar power

but chillers aren't as cold as regular freon units

they just take less electricty

Russ - 7-25-2010 at 07:36 PM

Don't remember you mentioning these "chiller units" before. More info please.

Bob and Susan - 7-26-2010 at 05:27 AM

there's three "chillers" in the "la Bahia" development
and one in punta suenoes

chiller units are used in big buildings in the uSA
they are very common ac units
they use less electricty than a regular freon unit

these are forced air homes that use solar and batteries for electricty

the units use 10amps at 240v
and work off 2 stacked 3500w outback inverters

things here just get better and better
one guy even has a pool:wow::wow:

Russ - 7-26-2010 at 05:48 AM

That kinda leaves me out. I'd have to double my batteries & panels to run that.

Pescador - 7-26-2010 at 06:17 AM

Geez, Russ, I could loan you my generator since I am on the Grid, but the extension cord would probably be really expensive.:biggrin::biggrin:

One of the things that works really well down here is when there is a breeze or you have air moving with a fan. It really makes things seem cooler, maybe because all that sweat evaporates. Poor Captain Mike thought it was hot because of the humidity, shoot, he is used to the "Dry Heat" of Phoenix.

Marc - 7-26-2010 at 06:20 AM

We are now 3 weeks with fog all day. Weather good though for the San Francisco Marathon yesterday. Low 50F in the morning. The north bound lanes of the Golden Gate Bridge were closed to traffic for the race.

Marc - 7-26-2010 at 06:22 AM

For real suffering try Rangoon just before the monsoon season.

capt. mike - 7-26-2010 at 06:43 AM

if you have a good supply of water you can do direct/indirect cooling with no compressors and 600 watts of power.
system uses a heat exchanger but no gas.
similar to evaporative but dehumidifies so high dewpoints not an efficiency issue.

My background is in nuclear energy Roger. Let me take a look at your plans and I am sure we could come up with a method to harvest some useful fuel out of that waste. With just a few thousand grams of uranium U235 we could put together a small reactor that could provide you with energy for a lifetime. A small system that could produce say, a half megawatt per day.

That much power could run your entire household including some very serious cooling equipment for your place over on the "warmer" east side of the peninsula. With a little work on the idea we could light up the entire Coyote Bay...

I've got the Honda 3000 but want the 2000 so I can run it all night. Can you imagine how many folks would tap into the extension cord? I'd never see enough power to run a flash light.
~~~ I'd be outta here if it weren't for my fan. It's like a shadow. It follows me around. Like Mason when I have a treat in my hand.
~~~ 90% humidity this morning. I'd rather it rain! Very overcast and only a light 5+ mph breeze. OH yeah, 85º

I've read recently that small reactor plants are all the rage. Just enough capacity to run a subdivision or so. Cheap, low maintenance, and little waste. Westinghouse and Toshiba are alleged to be investing heavily in the technology. It could be the future.

wessongroup - 7-26-2010 at 10:42 AM

Hey... some really good information... thank you very much as it all helps

It just too bad we can't get that one going.. perhaps.. Large Hadron Supercollider Breaks Records in Search of "God" Particle.. can get us to another level and make a real change in our lives and the way we use our planet..

Would really love to see that "here" before going to the next level.. or what ever...

Lots of folks still have the old Hollywood stereotype of Mexicans in their mind. You know....the Peon leaning back into a cactus with his Sombrero pulled down over his face taking a siesta. [why would anyone ever think that anybody would lean back into a cactus]

Anyway, it would be difficult to see that napper as a nuclear scientist.
