Glad I picked Baja Sur for my new home! Or maybe it picked me!wessongroup - 7-22-2010 at 12:08 PM
Thanks.. that is a chilling tale.. would appear you don't have a chance on this type of thing.. they will kill the witnesses.. simple as that..
surprised that anyone came forward to testify given the current conditions.. can only hope they get out ok.. and it does not look promising at this
time..
Also, thank you for this piece of information.. had no idea it worked this way.. excellent information.. not sure how one deals with a situation like
this one.. other than not being "there".. where ever "there" is while in Mexico..
"In the Mexican judicial system, testimony isn't given in an open courtroom before a jury, but in office cubicles in front of lawyers. Typically,
neither the judge nor the defendant is present. The judge rules based on the transcript and case file."
Another thought.. why??? ....BillP - 7-22-2010 at 01:50 PM
For a comparison, here's the 2008 crime/murder rates for the major US cities, with a coupla exceptions (2008 was a bad year for TJ), Mexico don't look
too bad.
Sobering stats on the US, Bill. Violent place...especially in the city of "Brotherly Love."BillP - 7-22-2010 at 03:44 PM

If you look a New Orleans it almost makes Juarez look tame.wessongroup - 7-22-2010 at 04:04 PM
Perhaps .. but, don't think the LE are into electroshock of ones testicles yet .. could be wrong.. and planting two suitcases of pot.. and killing
witnesses.. out right for testify.. yeah, I know I don't have any proof.. on any of it.. but, tend to believe some guy with scars from the torture..
And I've in New Orleans and D.C and it's rough in places, big time ... but nothing like CIUDAD JUÁREZ.... think not.. go get your car fixed in CIUDAD
JUÁREZ and deal with those folks if they "pick you out of the line" ... that was what the article was about, I believe...Iflyfish - 7-23-2010 at 07:29 AM
BillP,
Those are shocking statistics. It is important to have perspective and knowledge.

Could not agree more.. have to look, have no true knowledge on the true face of the issue... sooo
Started with good all Wikipedia.. the first table only has statistics date in 2004, the "color coded maps" however have a date of 19/3/10
Only 162 drug related deaths in Baja Norte?! Is that right? Sure seems like a lot more (from what I remember reading in the news).wessongroup - 7-24-2010 at 06:38 AM

Think it's a bit higher than that...
Those numbers (162 are from the WSJ article interactive map) .. the second set of numbers are from Wikipedia which are in fact quite a bit higher...
Rate for BCN = 27.7/100,000 given as 2 x the National Rate
Population for Baja Norte.. 3,000,000 estimate [ 3,165,776 (June 2009)]
3,000,000/100,000= 3000*27.7= 831 as of date supplied 19/3/2010
The source of the information again is from Wikipedia
Would this seem closer to what you're thinking.. that works out to 277 per month... 831/3=277 per month average
Thanks did not work it all out... those are sobering stats to a population of 3,000,000 with a citizenry prevented from possessing firearms, law ..
perhaps the citizens should be armed
