Price of fishing License

MitchMan - 7-23-2010 at 10:20 AM

Just got back from La Paz. Got my one year fishing license from government agency there, cost =$531 pesos.
Quoted cost from Jonathan Roldan's Tailhunter shop on the malecon is $730 pesos (over the phone quote from them was $690 pesos).

If you get your one year license from the relevant governement offices, you have to pay for the license at one place and then pickup the license at different location ... takes time.

I've gotten mine directly from Conapesca in San Diego.

You can get it from some tackle stores but they charge a handling fee.

I'll say it takes time. When I did it the MitchMan way, they sent me to the local stationary store to get the appropriate form, then back to the office to get it partially filled out, then across town to wait in line and pay, then back to the original office to get the final stamps. Whew! Of course, Mexican office hours being what they are, these places were all closed at various and different times and it took two days.

On the other hand, the price is just about the same as a California resident fishing license this year ($41), and about a week's pay for a Mexican laborer.

Jonathan Roldan's Tailhunter 30% markup?
Can not you buy these online for $531 ?

I bought one at the farmacia in Los Barriles a few days ago. I think it was $531 pesos. Wrote my name on the form and my address (actually just "Buena Vista") gave her the money and got the licence.....real easy....dt

Somebody told me that you can go to Soriana in La Paz and pay $531 pesos for the license. You don't get the license at Soriana, but you get a payment receipt. I paid for mine and got my payment receipt at the govenment offices located at the corner of Nicholas Bravo and Isabel Catolica.

Once you have the payment receipt document, go to the SEMARNAT offices which are on a side street off of Colosio (turn right onto this side street which is just past the "vado" on Colosio as you drive away from Soriana). Once there, ask around for the exact office to go to and take your receipt to that office. The fellow that gives out the fishing licenses will take your receipt and fill out the fishing license for for you and then give it to you. Done.

You can get them every morning at the fishing palapas in La Playita. There is a lady sitting at a table right by the parking lot.
Very easy!

edit to add: I believe that you do need some sort of ID
