Friendly Baja hotel easy on the budget
July 25, 2004
Arriving in La Paz, Baja California, without hotel reservations let my husband and me see for ourselves and select from five budget recommendations we
found in guidebooks. The welcoming Hotel Yeneka was the best value, with rooms from $24 to $34 per night.
The hotel is just two blocks from the market's fruit-shake stands and three from the lovely malec?n (seafront boulevard) and beach. Next door is a
small Internet cafe. The helpful owner, a doctor, and his family live at the rear of the courtyard, which is filled with lush greenery, a funky
collection ranging from a rusting Model T to whale jaw bones and pottery, tables and chairs, playful kittens and a friendly dog, as well as colorful
prints by the resident artist.
The rooms have two comfortable double beds, bathroom with hot-water shower and a ceiling fan. We didn't meet any backpackers, but several vacationing
Mexican families and European visitors were staying there. For travelers who want fun and friendly over fancy, we found this hotel it to be muy
tranquilo and a great escape from the hordes of tourists in Cabo.
