Osprey's comment on the sounds of La Ribera awoke this recent memory.
When I first moved into this wonderful little casita here in Coatapec, I was inspecting the kitchen knives and I thought, man, do these need to be
sharpened, right within a minute, of that thought, still standing at the kitchen counter I heard a familiar tune on a whistle. That same tune I have
heard all over Mexico, in Guaymas, San Miguel, Oaxaca, etc. and I thought oh my gosh, that sounds like the whistle of a knife sharpener, and by golly
it was, and right than and there he sharpened my knives on his wheel. Amazing that little tune, you can hear it in any village or city in Mexico I
expect. Except, we don't have one in Los Barriles, ni modo.
