South from Tecate

Thank god summer is allmost over and we can head for East Cape. We are crossing the border at Tecate in late October. I am not sure how it happened but my caravan of one ( my wife and I and our cargo trailer ) has grown to five vehicles (two of which are pulling 5th wheels and three of which are pulling cago tailers).
I have been reading about how bad hiway 3 is south of Tecate. I am thinking we may be better off to take hiway 2 toEl Florido and then take the toll road to Ensanada. I have never gone that way and I would like some input as to the sanity of going tat way. FYI I am one of those people who has crossed at TJ before and would rather eat nails than go through that again
We are hopeing to get to El Rosario or maybe even to Catavina. Myconcern with El Rosario is the parking at Baja Cactus for the cargo trailers and is there a rv park for the 5th wheels? If we can make it to Catavina is there any decent motels (we have stayed at the Desert Inn and did not care for it) and is there a rv park ?
I think I have the rest of the trip pretty well worked out but would appreciate any Iformation.

There are indeed RV parks in El Rosario .. past Baja Cactus and around the bend..ahead a few blocks on the left. Hookups.

Just south of Catavina you will find Rcho. Sta. Inez sign ..turn left to the RV park. Lots of room, but no hookups. Water filled.

edit: As to the Tecate v.s. TJ crossing, I agree with you. I would do anything to avoid TJ. On the Tecate to Ensenada road condtions, you have some time left before your departure date. Good luck.

I've driven Hwy 2 several times and would recommend it for your group. Once you leave Tecate it's a 4 lane road to the Ensenada toll road; an easy drive. It's also easy access to the Otay Mesa crossing going north

by oct the tecate road will be fine

the name of the rv spot in el rosario is the sanhi
parking in the back

bobh has pictures
restruant in front

figure 7 hours from the border with a trailer
to el rosario
all 5 will fit in

i'd "eat nails" and cross at tj
with a caravan
way easier

Baja Cactus has a huge area behind gates for RV parking if you want to enjoy his A-1 rooms for their tiny price... massage service now offered!

SINAHI is the RV Park behind the SINAHI MOTEL and La Bocana Beach Restaurant, halfway through town, on the left.

Hwy. 3 is not 'bad', it is under construction (for some 14 miles) to be widened. Hwy. 1 south of Maneadero, same thing!

Went thru HWY 3 yesterday and its about 25 miles of construction now. Pretty bad in some spots the dump trucks are many and very slow. Had three stops for oneway traffic about 5 minutes each. Good news is they are working like beavers and should be done by late Oct. Then its a super HWY.
